procedure.
Remove
- Open all the doors and lower all the windows.
- Remove the rear trunk parcel shelf. See Parcel Shelf - Rear Trunk (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the lower liftgate trim. See Trim - Liftgate - Lower (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the liftgate speaker grille. See Grille - Speaker - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the upper liftgate grim. See Trim - Upper - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Disconnect the CHMSL electrical connector.
- Disconnect the LH antenna amplifier electrical connector, and then use masking tape to secure the harness onto the liftgate glass.
- Disconnect the LH antenna RF filter electrical connector.
- Disconnect the RH antenna amplifier electrical connector, and then use masking tape to secure the harness onto the liftgate glass.
- Disconnect the rear defrost grid harness from the +12V noise filter antenna located on RH side of liftgate.
- Apply tape to the body surrounding the liftgate glass assembly for protection.
- Clean the liftgate glass, and then secure double suction cup handles onto both sides of the liftgate glass.
- Cut a suitable length of square wire to use with T-handles.
- Attach the square wire into the T-handle.

Secure the wire to the starter tool
and push the tool through the urethane at the upper left side of the liftgate
glass.
NoteCarefully push starter wire tool in between the liftgate glass assembly and CHMSL.
- Remove the square wire from the starter tool and secure the wire into one T-handle.
- Remove wire starter tool from the vehicle.

With an assistant, use the T-handles
to cut the urethane that attaches the liftgate glass to the liftgate.
NoteIf wire is getting caught on CHMSL, an equalizer can be used to separate the CHMSL from the liftgate glass.

Remove the tape from body.
NoteInspect the body and liftgate assembly for any nicks that may need touch up paint.
- Use a blade scraper to remove the urethane bead from the liftgate assembly.
- Remove the CHMSL from the liftgate glass.
- Carefully remove any adhesive residue from the liftgate glass.
- Carefully remove remaining urethane from the liftgate glass.

Fold the RH 2nd row seat back to the
down position.
NoteIf the seat cushion is not present, protect the seat as required.

Release the clip and tab that attach
the RH side bolster trim to the vehicle, and then remove the bolster trim from the
vehicle.
NoteStart by releasing the upper portion.
- Release the clips (x4) that attach the RH lower C-pillar trim to the mid C-pillar trim.
- Release the clips (x3) that attach the RH mid C-pillar trim to the C-pillar, and then remove the trim from the vehicle.
- Release the clips (x7) that attach the RH upper C-pillar trim to the C-pillar, and then move the trim aside.
- Push open the RH coat hook.
- Release the tabs (x2) that attach the RH coat hook screw cover to the assembly.

Remove the LH coat hook screw.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- T25 socket
- Repeat step 24 through step 31 for the RH side of the vehicle.

Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the
rear of the headliner to the vehicle.3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)NoteThe bolts are located on LH and RH side of the headliner.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket
- Release the clips (x5) that attach the rear portion of the headliner to the vehicle, and then release the rear of the headliner.
- Close the liftgate.
- Remove the butyl patch to access liftgate hinge to body nuts.

Mark the fastener location for
installation.
NoteLocation of the nuts can be marked using masking tape, sharpie, or lightly scribing with a pocket screwdriver.

With assistance, remove the nuts (x2)
that attach the LH liftgate hinge to the vehicle.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpThe fasteners are easily accessed from inside the vehicle.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket

Remove the bolts that attach the LH
liftgate hinge to the liftgate.11 Nm (8.1 lbs-ft)NoteUse a sharpie to mark the location of the fasteners before removing.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket
- Open the liftgate.
- Support the liftgate with a hood prop.
- Release the LH liftgate gas strut from the ball stud on the liftgate.

With an assistant lifting up on the LH
side of the liftgate, remove the LH liftgate hinge from the vehicle.
NoteRemove the hinge while inside the trunk area.NoteOnce removed, install a new hinge while the liftgate is being held up.
Install
- With assistance, position the LH liftgate hinge into the vehicle.

With assistance, install the nuts (x2)
that attach the LH liftgate hinge to the vehicle.16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)TIpThe fasteners are easily accessed from inside the vehicle.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket

Install the bolts that attach the LH
liftgate hinge to the liftgate, and then loosely install the butyl patch onto the access
hole.11 Nm (8.1 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket
- Close the liftgate to check for gap/flush and that the liftgate closes as expected, and adjust as necessary.
- Open the liftgate.
- Secure the butyl patch to the original location.
- Install the LH liftgate gas strut onto the ball stud on the liftgate.
- Remove the hood prop.

Inspect the liftgate glass for any
damage that is not reworkable.
NoteReplace the liftgate glass if there is any damage that cannot be rectified.

Use an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe to
clean the CHMSL mounting location on the liftgate glass.
NoteAllow the surface to dry for at least one minute.
-
Use an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe to
clean the urethane path on the liftgate glass.
NoteAllow the surface to dry for at least one minute.
-
Use an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe to
clean the urethane path on liftgate assembly.
NoteAllow the surface to dry for at least one minute.
-
Print out the CHMSL template and cut
it out.

- Place the CHMSL templates on the upper corner of the liftgate glass, and then secure the template with tape.
- Remove the red tape covers from the CHMSL.
- Position the CHMSL to upper corners of template, and then apply pressure to the CHMSL to adhere the 3M tape to liftgate glass.
- Remove the CHMSL templates from liftgate glass.
- Use tape to secure the CHMSL harness to the liftgate glass.
- With an assistant, position the liftgate glass onto the vehicle for a dry fit.
- Check the gap and flushness of the liftgate glass and take note of any needed adjustments.
- With an assistant, remove liftgate glass from the vehicle.

Apply urethane primer to the liftgate
glass along the urethane path.
NoteAllow the primer to dry for 2 minutes.

Apply urethane primer to the liftgate
body along the urethane path.
NoteAllow the primer to dry for 2 minutes.
-
Prepare the caulking gun and
urethane.
NoteOpening must be 8mm wide and 14mm tall.
-
Apply urethane to the liftgate body
following the primer patch.
NoteFill any gaps in the urethane to ensure a consistent bead.
- With an assistant, install the liftgate glass onto vehicle.
-
Check the gap and flushness of
liftgate glass and make adjustments as necessary.
NoteUse tape to hold the glass in place. Allow the glass 10 minutes of dry time before opening the liftgate.
- Remove the suction cups from the liftgate glass.
-
Open the liftgate.
NoteAllow for dry time.
- Disconnect the rear defrost grid harness from the +12V noise filter antenna located on RH side of liftgate.
- Connect the RH antenna amplifier electrical connector.
- Connect the CHMSL electrical connector.
- Connect the LH antenna RF filter electrical connector.
- Connect the LH antenna amplifier electrical connector.
- Install the upper liftgate grim. See Trim - Upper - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Install the liftgate speaker grille. See Grille - Speaker - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Install the lower liftgate trim. See Trim - Liftgate - Lower (Remove and Replace).

Secure the clips (x5) that attach the
rear portion of the headliner to the vehicle.
NoteVerify the clips are properly seated prior to installation.NoteReplace any damaged or missing clips.

Install the bolts (x2) that attach the
rear of the headliner to the vehicle.3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)NoteThe bolts are located on LH and RH side of the headliner.TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket

Install the RH coat hook screw.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- T25 socket
- Close the RH coat hook screw cover.
- Push the RH coat hook closed.
- Position the RH upper C-pillar trim to the C-pillar, and then fasten the clips (x7) that attach the trim to the vehicle.
- Install the RH mid C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Mid - LH (Remove and Replace).

Fold the RH 2nd row seat back to the
vertical position.
NoteRemove seat cushion protection.
- Install the RH side bolster trim. See Bolster - Outer - Seat - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Repeat step 39 through step 45 for the LH side of the vehicle.
- Install the rear trunk parcel shelf. See Parcel Shelf - Rear Trunk (Remove and Replace).
- Raise all the windows and close all the doors.
