Handle - Exterior Release - Door - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Use the touchscreen to place the vehicle in neutral and activate the parking brake.
  2. Latch the LH rear door to allow the window to raise fully.

    Note
    Do not close the door with window in this position as the upper bright trim may be damaged and/or the glass may break.
  3. Apply masking tape to the LH exterior door exterior handle to prevent damage to the chrome surface.
  4. Remove the LH rear door trim panel. See Panel - Door Trim - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH rear door inner belt seal. See Seal - Inner Belt - Rear Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH rear door closeout panel. See Closeout Panel - Door - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the rear LH door glass. See Door Glass - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the plug that covers the opening in the LH rear door to access the LH rear regulator mounting guide.
  9. Remove the lower LH rear regulator mounting nut.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  10. Remove the LH upper rear regulator mounting nut.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  11. Release the LH rear window regulator from the lower mount.
  12. Move the rear portion of the LH rear window regulator towards the front of the door cavity.
  13. Release the red locking tab, and then disconnect the LH rear door handle electrical connector.
  14. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the LH rear door handle assembly to the LH rear door.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

    Note
    Access the bottom left nut by reaching into the door opening.
  15. Remove the screws (x5) that attach the hard cover to the LH rear door exterior release handle assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket
  16. Remove the screws (x4) that attach the painted door handle backplate to the LH rear door exterior release handle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T20 socket

Install

  1. Install LH rear door exterior release handle into the door handle assembly.
  2. Install the painted door handle backplate onto the LH rear door exterior release handle assembly, and then install the bolts (x4).
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T20 socket
  3. Install the hard cover onto the LH rear door exterior release handle, and then install the bolts (x5).
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket
  4. Position the LH rear door exterior release handle into the LH rear door, and then install the nuts (x4) that attach the handle assembly to the door. Use the door handle alignment tool to ensure the door handle is properly adjusted.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  5. Connect the LH rear door handle harness electrical connector, and then engage the locking tab.
  6. Position the LH rear window regulator onto the lower mount.
  7. Install the LH upper rear regulator mounting nut.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  8. Install the lower LH rear regulator mounting nut.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  9. Install the plug that covers the opening in the LH rear door.
  10. Adjust the LH rear door glass to the previously marked position, and then tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the glass to the window regulator.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  11. Remove the tape from the LH rear door glass.
  12. Install the plug and butyl patch that cover the openings in door for the LH upper rear regulator mounting nuts.
  13. Install the rear LH door glass. See Door Glass - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the LH rear door closeout panel. See Closeout Panel - Door - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the LH rear door inner belt seal. See Seal - Inner Belt - Rear Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Disconnect the window switch special tool from the LH rear window switch.
  17. Install the LH rear door trim panel. See Panel - Door Trim - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)
  18. Release the LH rear door latch.

    Note
    This will allow the window to drop and not contact the bright trim when closing the door.
  19. Close the LH rear door.
  20. Reinstall the software. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  21. On the touchscreen, touch Service > Closures > Door Handles.
    Software version 2023.12 or later is required for the function to be available through the touchscreen.
  22. In the door handle calibration screen, touch Calibrate for the Rear Left door handle.
  23. On the touchscreen, touch Service > Closures > Windows.
    Software version 2023.12 or later is required for the function to be available through the touchscreen.
  24. In the next screen, touch Calibrate Windows.
  25. Verify that the LH rear door handle functions correctly.
