Remove
- Move the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Depressurize the LH rear active damper. See Air Suspension - Pressurize / Depressurize - Full System.
- Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the LH rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Disconnect the electrical harness from the LH rear active damper connectors (x2) and release the grommet that attaches the electrical harness to the damper.
- Release the connector red locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical harness from the LH electronic parking brake motor connector.
- Release the tabs (x2) that attach the LH rear active damper harness bracket to the LH rear active damper, and then remove the bracket from the damper.
-
Remove and discard the nut that
attaches the LH rear stabilizer bar drop link to the rear stabilizer bar, and then
remove the drop link from the stabilizer bar.
NoteTo prevent ball joint damage, use a 5 mm Allen wrench to prevent the LH drop link ball joint stud from turning while removing the nut.
- Loosen the air suspension line fitting on the LH rear active damper, and after all air has been released, remove the fitting from the damper.
-
Remove the nut that attaches the LH
rear active damper to the LH rear knuckle.
NoteDo not remove the bolt.
- Wrap the end of a pry bar with a clean shop towel, and set a dead blow hammer onto the top of the LH rear knuckle.
- With the help of an assistant, use the pry bar against the dead blow hammer to pry up on the LH rear active damper valve body and unload the bolt that attaches the damper to the LH rear knuckle, and then remove the bolt.
- Remove and discard the nuts (x3) that attach the LH rear active damper to the body.
- Pull the LH rear knuckle away from the body, move the bottom end of the LH rear active damper inward, then rearward, and then remove the damper from vehicle.
- Move the air suspension line fitting up the line to expose the collets, remove and discard the collets, and then remove and discard the fitting from air suspension line.
Install
- Pull the LH rear knuckle away from the body, move the top end of the LH rear active damper up onto the studs, and them move the bottom end of the damper out to the knuckle.
-
Install new nuts (x3) to attach the LH
rear active damper to the body.
-
Remove the plug from the LH rear
active damper air fitting, and then insert the air suspension line all the way into the
fitting.
NotePerform a Push-Pull-Push check to verify that the air suspension line is secure.
-
With the help of an assistant, use the
pry bar against the dead blow hammer on the LH rear knuckle to pry up on the LH rear
active damper valve body, and then install the bolt that attaches the damper to the
knuckle.
NoteDo not install the nut at this time
- Install and hand tighten a new nut to attach the LH rear active damper to the LH rear knuckle.
-
Install the LH rear stabilizer bar
drop link into the rear stabilizer bar, install a new nut to attach the drop link to the
stabilizer bar, and then mark the nut with a paint pen after tightening.NoteTo prevent ball joint damage, use a 5 mm Allen wrench to prevent the drop link ball joint stud from turning while installing the nut.
- Install the LH rear active damper harness bracket to the LH rear active damper, and then fasten the tabs (x2) that attach the bracket to the damper.
- Connect the electrical harness to the LH electronic parking brake motor connector, and then fasten the connector red locking tab.
- Fasten the grommet that attaches the electrical harness to the damper, and then connect the electrical harness to the LH rear active damper connectors (x2).
-
If installed, remove and discard
the bolt that attaches the brake rotor to the hub.
NoteA new bolt will not be installed.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket
-
Install the hub jack adapter onto the
LH rear hub, and then install and hand-tighten the nuts (x5) that attach the adpater to
the hub.
NoteThe hydraulic hub tool can used if the hub jack adapter is not available.
- Use a support stand under the hub jack adapter to raise the LH rear suspension to a simulated ride height.
-
Adjust the support stand so that the
vertical distance from the bottom of the LH rear casting to the center of the LH rear
halfshaft is 85 mm +/- 5 mm.
NoteMeasure as shown.
-
Tighten the bolt that attaches the LH
rear active damper to the LH rear knuckle.
- Lower and remove the support stand from under the hub jack adapter.
- Remove the nuts (x5) that attach the hub jack adapter to the LH rear hub, and then remove the adpater from the hub.
- Install the LH rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Pressurize the LH rear active damper. See Air Suspension - Pressurize / Depressurize - Full System.
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
