Brake Rotor - Rear - LH (Measure Runout)

Procedure

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Apply the brake pedal depressor.

    Verify the brake pedal is fully pressed to avoid wheels from spinning.
  3. Release the park brake caliper using Toolbox. See Park Brake Caliper - Release.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  5. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. If installed, remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear rotor to the knuckle assembly.

    Some vehicles may not have this fastener installed from the factory.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  7. Install the brake rotor run out clamping plate onto the rear rotor.
    100 Nm (73.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm deep socket

    This simulates the wheel being installed, thus preventing inaccurate measurements.
  8. Lower the vehicle to a suitable height, and then remove the brake pedal depressor.
  9. Raise the vehicle partially to a comfortable working height.
  10. Install the brake rotor run out flex bar onto the rear toe link bolt and setup for reading.
  11. Measure 15 mm inward from the rear rotor end and align the digital indicator. Press the indicator rod and zero measurement.

    Make sure the indicator rod is pressed to allow travel in both directions and does not bottom out
  12. Mark the top center of the rear rotor to identify the starting point.
  13. Slowly rotate the rotor 1 full revolution.

    Record the highest positive and lowest negative values as shown on the digital indicator as the rotation is completed.

    Note
    The total runout is the difference between the highest positive and lowest negative values and must not exceed 0.050 mm. If the total runout exceeds 0.050 mm, the brake rotor must be replaced due to excessive runout.
  14. Measure 30 mm inward from the rotor end and align digital indicator. Press the indicator rod and zero measurement.

    Make sure the indicator rod is pressed to allow travel in both directions and does not bottom out.
  15. Slowly rotate the rotor 1 full revolution.

    The total runout is the difference between the highest positive and lowest negative values and must not exceed 0.050 mm. If the total runout exceeds 0.050 mm, the brake rotor must be replaced due to excessive runout.
  16. Measure 45 mm inward from the rotor end and align digital indicator. Press the indicator rod and zero measurement.

  17. Slowly rotate the rotor 1 full revolution.

  18. Remove the brake rotor run out flex bar from the rear toe link bolt.
  19. Lower the vehicle to suitable height, and then install the brake pedal depressor.
  20. Raise the vehicle partially to a comfortable working height.
  21. Remove the brake rotor runout clamping plate from the rear rotor.
  22. Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  23. Press and hold the park button to release the EPB service mode and apply the parking brakes.

    Remove the wheel chocks, if necessary.
  24. Remove the brake pedal depressor from the vehicle.
  25. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
