Module - Restraint Control (Remove and Replace)

Make sure LV power has been disconnected for at least 1 minute before disconnecting the electrical harness from Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components, such as the Restraint Control Module, sensors, airbags, etc. Failure to do so can result in unintended safety system behaviors. While performing any Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) related repairs, it is important to disconnect LV power. If the vehicle’s LV power is NOT disconnected and the Restraint Control Module is removed or disturbed, this can result in the deployment of the vehicle’s airbags.

Remove

  1. Move the LH front seat backward.
  2. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Remove the LH toeboard bracket. See Bracket - Toeboard - LH (Remove and Replace).

    Make sure LV is disconnected before continuing to the next step.
  4. Disconnect the electrical harnesses (x2) from the RCM.

    Note
    Swing open the locking arm to release the connector. Remove the RH connector first.
  5. Remove and discard the nuts (x3) that attach the RCM to the vehicle, and then remove the RCM from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the new RCM on the vehicle, and then install new nuts (x3) that attach the RCM to the vehicle.

  2. Connect the electrical harnesses (x2) to the RCM.

    Close the locking arms. Install the LH connector first.
  3. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  4. Redeploy the vehicle firmware. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  5. While the firmware is redeploying, reinstall all parts that were removed for access. See Bracket - Toeboard - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Enter Service Mode Plus. See Service Mode Plus
  7. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Safety and Restraints > Airbags > RCM > Post Replacement Tasks.
  8. On the next screen, touch Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  9. Exit Service Mode.
