Breather - Front Drive Unit (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  2. Release the clip that attaches the front drive unit breather shroud to the front drive unit, and then remove the shroud from the vehicle.

    Note
    Early vehicles might have sealant attaching the shroud to the front drive unit. If sealant is present, peel off the cover from rear, and then remove debris from cover and front drive unit.
  3. Remove and discard the front drive unit breather from the front drive unit assembly.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 22 mm socket

Install

  1. Install the new front drive unit breather into the front drive unit assembly.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 22 mm socket
  2. Using a heat gun, slightly heat up the clip tabs on the front drive unit breather shroud to ease installation.
  3. Position the front drive unit breather shroud into the front drive unit, and then secure the clip that attaches the shroud to the vehicle.

    Note
    Install a new breather shroud if the old unit was damaged. The shroud is required to prevent water ingress.
  4. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
