Air Suspension - Bundle - Rear (Remove and Replace)

This procedure is a DRAFT,
although it has been validated. Warnings and Cautions might be missing. Follow safety
requirements and use extreme caution when working on or near high voltage systems and
components. Provide corrections and feedback to ServiceDevelopment@teslamotors.com.
Remove
- Open all doors and lower all windows.
- Remove the LH and RH rocker panel scuff plates. See Scuff Plate - Rocker Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH and RH rocker panel moldings. See Molding - Rocker Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Remove all wheels. See Wheel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Perform the cooling system thermal fluid procedure. See Thermal Fluid - Cooling System (Fill/Drain).
- Perform the "Deflate All" section of Air Suspension - Pressurize / Depressurize - Full System.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).

Remove the bolts (x6) that attach the
front fascia bracket to the carrier.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension

Remove the push clips (x5) that attach
the LH front wheel arch liner to the front fascia, and then move the liner to the side
for access.

Remove the bolt that attaches the
front fascia to the LH fender bracket.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T25 socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension
- Repeat steps 13 and 14 for the RH side of the vehicle.
- Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).

Disconnect the front fascia electrical
connectors (x2).
CAUTIONDO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling to release the connector.

Remove the bolts (x3) and release the
clips that attach the front fascia valance to the front aero shield, and then release
the valance from the aero shield.
NoteDo not remove middle bolts (x3).Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension

With assistance, release the front
fascia assembly from the fender brackets, and then pull the fascia forward to remove it
from the vehicle.
NoteSet fascia on a padded surface.
- Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
- Remove the front body controller module. See Module - Body Controller - Front (Remove and Replace).

Release the clips (x3 that attach the
air suspension rear bundle to the body behind the VC front.
- Remove the HV battery. See HV Battery (AWD) (Remove and Install).

Release the clips (x7) that attach the
air suspension rear bundle to the RH side of vehicle body.
-
Remove the nuts (x3) that attach the
rear valance in order to gain access to the air suspension rear bundle.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket

While holding down the valance,
release the clips (x3) that attach the air suspension rear bundle from behind the rear
subframe.
- Remove the RH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH and RH rear wheel arch liners. Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).

Disconnect the air suspension valve
block electrical connector.

Remove the nuts (x2) that attach the
air suspension rear bundle to the valve block, then remove the rear bundle from the
valve block, and then release the clip.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm 12-point combination wrench

Release the clips (x3) that attach the
air suspension rear bundle to the RH front wheel house.

Release the clips (x10) that attach
the air suspension rear bundle to the RH rear wheel house.
-
Remove the nut that attaches the RH
rear air strut fitting.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm 12-point combination wrench
NoteGuide the air line out of the wheel house. -
Release the clips (x3) that attach the
rear bundle air line to the LH rear wheel house.

Remove the nut that attaches the LH
rear air strut fitting.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm 12-point combination wrench
NoteGuide the air line out of the wheel house. -
Remove the air suspension rear bundle
from the vehicle.
NoteGuide the bundle through the body into the front trunk area, then guide the bundle below superbeam into the front RH wheel house.
Install
-
Install the air suspension rear bundle
into the vehicle.
NoteGuide the bundle into the RH rear wheel house, and then guide the bundle into RH front wheel house.

Install the air suspension rear bundle
into the front LH wheel house.
NoteGuide the air lines through wheel house into the front trunk area, and then guide the air lines into the front RH wheel house.

Install new 4 mm VOSS fittings (x2) to
the valve block for the rear bundle.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm 12-point combination wrench
- 10 mm open crowfoot socket

Fasten the clip that attaches the rear
bundle air lines into the valve block.
NoteRemove the fitting inserts.NoteInstall the air lines into the valve block in corresponding fittings.

Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the
rear bundle to the RH front wheel house.
-
Fasten the clips (x10) that attach the
rear bundle air line to the RH rear wheel house.
-
Install new 4 mm VOSS fittings (x2) to
the LH and RH rear struts.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm 12-point combination wrench
- 10 mm open crowfoot socket

Install the nut that attaches the RH
rear air strut line.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
NoteRemove the fitting insert.NoteFully insert the air line into the fitting. It should sit between the two white marks on the air lines. Verify air lines are properly seated by performing push-pull test. -
Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the
rear bundle air line onto the LH rear wheel house.
NoteGuide the air line into wheel house over harness, and then secure the air line to wheel house.

Install the nut that attaches the LH
rear air strut line.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
NoteRemove the fitting insert.NoteFully insert the air line into the fitting. It should sit between the two white marks on the air lines. Verify air lines are properly seated by performing push-pull test. -
Install the LH and RH rear wheel arch liners. Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the RH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install all wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).

Fasten the clips (x7) that attach the
rear bundle to the RH side of the vehicle body.

While holding down the valance, fasten
the clips (x3) that attach the rear bundle to the rear subframe.

Install the nuts (x3) that attach the rear valance.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
- Install the HV battery. See HV Battery (AWD) (Remove and Install).

With assistance, install the front
fascia onto the vehicle, and then secure the fascia to the fender brackets.
NoteRoute the fascia harness while installing. Verify the front fascia valance sits under the front aero shield before proceeding.

Apply Loctite 222 to the fasteners,
and then install the bolts (x3) that attach the front fascia valance to the front aero
shield panel.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10mm socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension

Connect the front fascia harness
electrical connectors (x2), and then engage the connector lock.

Install the bolt that attaches the
front fascia to the RH fender bracket.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T25 socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension

Install the bolt that attaches the
front fascia to the LH fender bracket.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T25 socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension

Install the push clips (x5) that
attach the RH front wheel liner to the front fascia.

Install push clips (x5) that attach
the LH front wheel liner to the front fascia.
-
Install the bolts (x6) that attach the
front fascia bracket to the carrier.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- 4 in extension
- Perform the cooling system refill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
- Install the front body controller module. See Module - Body Controller - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Refill the air suspension reservoir. See "Refill the Reservoir" section in Air Suspension - Pressurize / Depressurize - Full System.
- Remove the air suspension from "Jack Mode" using the vehicle touchscreen.
- Install the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
