Tie Rod Assembly - LH (Remove and Replace)

Remove
- Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).

Remove and discard the nut that
attaches the LH tie rod to the knuckle assembly, and then release the tie rod from the
knuckle.
102 Nm (75.2 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- 21 mm socket

Remove and discard the large bellows
clamp from bellows.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Pick Miniature Soft Grip 90 degree tip 6in
- Small flat head screwdriver

Remove bellows seal clip from
bellows.
NoteFlexible spring band clamp pliers.

Slide bellows toward LH outer tie rod end.
NoteYou need to access the LH inner tie rod end inner ball joint.

Remove LH tie rod assembly from pinion
housing.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 2 in extension
- Breaker Bar 1/2in Dr. x Long - 1082458-00-A
Install

Adjusting new tie rod length to match
old tie rod before installation.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Combination Wrench 12pt 14mm
- Combination Wrench 12pt 21mm
NoteTurn adjust inner tie rod as needed, parts line up is to count the threads on the removed tie rod then adjust to the same count on the new one, this will make alignment adjustment easier. -
Install LH inner tie rod assembly onto
pinion housing.
88 Nm (64.9 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended::- 38 crowfoot
- 1/2 inch extension EXT-1/2IN-L125MM ZEBRA
NoteTwist until it's fully seated. -
Slide bellows over pinion housing in
preparation for clamping.

Secure large bellows clamp onto bellows.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- JLR-211-342 STEERING GEAR CLAMP

Secure bellows seal clip onto bellows.
TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flexible spring band clamp pliers
-
Install new nut that attaches the LH tie rod to the knuckle assembly, and then
release the tie rod from the knuckle.
102 Nm (75.2 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:- 21 mm socket
- Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
