Decor - Instrument Panel (2025+) (Remove and Replace)

Note
This procedure describes work that is specific to 2025+ Model S.

Remove

  1. Remove the LH and RH IP end caps. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  2. On the touchscreen, touch Controls > Steering, use the left scroll wheel to adjust the steering column to its fully outward and fully downward position, and then touch Save.
  3. Disconnect the LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  4. Remove the phone dock assembly. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).

    Note
    It's not necessary to separate the inductive charger from the phone dock assembly.
  5. Remove the IP service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).

    It's not necessary to separate the cabin temperature sensor fan from the service panel assembly.
  6. Remove the touchscreen assembly. See Touchscreen (HW4) (Remove and Replace).

    It's not necessary to separate the touchscreen pivot mechanism from the touchscreen assembly.
  7. Remove the LH instrument panel middle panel. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the RH instrument panel middle panel. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Release the clips (x21) that attach the main instrument panel decor to the instrument panel, disconnect the ambient bright electrical connectors (x2), and then remove the decor from the vehicle.

    Note
    Release the IP décor connector clips first, and then disconnect the electrical connectors (x2).

Install

  1. Connect the ambient bright electrical connectors (x2), and then secure the clips (x21) that attach the main instrument panel decor to the instrument panel.

    Secure each IP decor connector clip to IP carrier and then secure the IP decor to the lower instrument panel.
  2. Install the RH instrument panel middle panel. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  3. Install the LH instrument panel middle panel. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Install the touchscreen assembly. See Touchscreen (HW4) (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the IP service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the phone dock assembly. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  7. Connect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  8. Restore the steering column back to its original position.
  9. Install the LH and RH IP end caps. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  11. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): TEST-SELF_VCRIGHT_X_DASH-RGB-SELF-ADDRESSINGvia Toolbox: (link)
  12. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  13. Update the vehicle software. See Firmware Update.
