Knuckle - Suspension - Front - LH (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. On the touchscreen, touch Controls > Service > Jack Mode to enable Jack Mode.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Remove the LH front wheel cap.
  4. Loosen the LH front axle nut.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 32 mm deep impact socket
  5. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the LH front hub. See Hub - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the LH front brake shield.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T30 socket
  8. Remove the nut that attaches the front stabilizer bar end link to the LH front knuckle, the rotate the end link away from the knuckle.
    Tip: Use a 5mm hex tool to keep the stud from spinning.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • 5 mm hex
  9. Remove the nut that attaches the LH lower aft link to the knuckle, and then release LH aft link from the knuckle.
    Tip: Use a T45 socket to keep the stud from spinning.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 22 mm socket
    • Torx T45 socket
  10. Remove the nut that attaches the LH lower fore link to the knuckle, and then release the LH fore link from the knuckle.
    Tip: Use a T45 socket to keep the stud from spinning.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 22 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T45 socket
  11. Remove the nut that attaches the LH tie rod from the knuckle, and then release the LH tie rod from the knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  12. Remove the nut and bolt that attaches the LH front upper control arm to the knuckle, and then release the control arm from the knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T50 socket
  13. Remove the LH front knuckle from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Install the LH front knuckle to vehicle, placing the knuckle around the half shaft and aligning the lower fore and aft links. Insert the upper control arm stud to the top of the knuckle.
  2. Using a new patch nut, install the bolt that attach the LH front knuckle to the upper control arm.
    60 Nm (44.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T50 socket
  3. Insert the LH tie rod to the knuckle and install a new nut.
    102 Nm (75.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  4. Using a new nut, install the LH fore link to the knuckle.
    180 Nm (132.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use a T45 socket to keep the stud from spinning.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 22 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T45 socket
  5. Using a new nut, install the LH aft link to the knuckle.
    180 Nm (132.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use a T45 socket to keep the stud from spinning.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 22 mm socket
    • Torx T45 socket
  6. Using a new nut, install the stabilizer bar end link to the knuckle.
    70 Nm (51.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use a 5mm hex tool to keep the stud from spinning.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • 5 mm hex
  7. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the front brake shield to the knuckle.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T30 socket
  8. Install the hub and bearing assembly. See Hub - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  10. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  11. Torque the LH front axle nut.
    245 Nm (180.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 32 mm deep impact socket
  12. Install the LH front wheel cap, aligning the valve stem with the wheel cap.
  13. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
  14. On the touchscreen, touch Controls > Service > Jack Mode to disable Jack Mode.
  15. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
