Power Strut - Liftgate (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open all the doors and lower all the windows.
  2. Remove the rear trunk parcel shelf. See Parcel Shelf - Rear Trunk (Remove and Replace).
  3. Move the front passenger seat forward.
  4. Remove the RH upper B-pillar trim. See Trim - B-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Fold the RH 2nd row seat back to the down position.

    Note
    If the seat cushion is not present, protect the seat as required.
  6. Release the clip and tab that attach the RH side bolster trim to the vehicle, and then remove the bolster trim from the vehicle.

    Start by releasing the upper portion.
  7. Release the clips (x4) that attach the RH lower C-pillar trim to the mid C-pillar trim.
  8. Release the clips (x3) that attach the RH mid C-pillar trim to the C-pillar, and then remove the trim from the vehicle.

  9. Release the clips (x7) that attach the RH upper C-pillar trim to the C-pillar, and then move the trim aside.

  10. Push open the RH coat hook.

  11. Release the tabs (x2) that attach the RH coat hook screw cover to the assembly.

  12. Remove the RH coat hook screw.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket

  13. Repeat step 3 through step 12 for the LH side of the vehicle.
  14. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the rear of the headliner to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)

    Note
    The bolts are located on LH and RH side of the headliner.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10mm socket
  15. Release the clips (x5) that attach the rear portion of the headliner to the vehicle, and then release the rear of the headliner.
  16. Release the clip that secures the power liftgate harness to the body.
  17. Disconnect the power liftgate connector.
  18. Release the liftgate power strut grommet, and then feed the harness out.
  19. Safely prop up and support the liftgate.
  20. Release the clip that secures the liftgate power strut to the upper ball stud, and then release the strut from the ball stud.
  21. Release the clip that secures the liftgate power strut to the lower ball stud, release the strut from the ball stud, and then remove the strut from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the liftgate power strut into the vehicle, secure the strut to the lower ball stud, and then install the clip that secures the strut to the ball stud.
  2. Install the liftgate power strut to the upper ball stud, and then install the clip that secures the strut to the ball stud.
  3. Remove the prop from the liftgate.
  4. Secure the liftgate power strut grommet, and then feed the harness through the body.

    Verify the grommet is fully seated.

    Note the direction of the arrow.
  5. Connect the power liftgate connector.
  6. Fasten the clip that secures the power liftgate harness to the body.
  7. Secure the clips (x5) that attach the rear portion of the headliner to the vehicle.

    Verify the clips are properly seated prior to installation.

    Replace any damaged or missing clips.
  8. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the rear of the headliner to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)

    The bolts are located on LH and RH side of the headliner.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10mm socket
  9. Install the RH coat hook screw.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket
  10. Close the RH coat hook screw cover.
  11. Push the RH coat hook closed.
  12. Position the RH upper C-pillar trim to the C-pillar, and then fasten the clips (x7) that attach the trim to the vehicle.
  13. Install the RH mid C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Mid - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Fold the RH 2nd row seat back to the vertical position.

    Note
    Remove seat cushion protection.
  15. Install the RH side bolster trim. See Bolster - Outer - Seat - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the RH upper B-pillar trim. See Trim - B-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Move the front passenger seat to the original position.
  18. Repeat step COAT HOOK through step MOVE FRONT SEAT for the RH side of the vehicle.
  19. Install the rear trunk parcel shelf. See Parcel Shelf - Rear Trunk (Remove and Replace).
  20. Raise all the windows and close all the doors.
