Sensor - HVAC - Windshield (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the lower quad camera cover. See Camera Cover - Lower (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the rear view mirror. See Mirror - Rear View (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the upper quad camera cover. See Upper Cover - Rear View Mirror (Remove and Replace).
  4. Disconnect the windshield HVAC sensor connector.
  5. Remove and discard the screws (x2) that attach the windshield HVAC sensor to the windshield bracket, and then remove the sensor from the vehicle.

    CAUTION
    Use the PH00 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws. If the screwdriver is too large, the screws will strip out.

    The screws are tiny, take care not to drop or misplace them during removal.

    Use a pocket screwdriver to gently pry on the sensor to release the foam from the adhesive.

Install

Note
Ensure that a graphene foam block is present on the contact pad and the blue tape is removed from the sensor foam pad before installation. If the foam is degraded or no longer present, install a new graphene foam block. Clean all adhesive residue that is left from the old foam. The foam is required for conducting the temperature of the windshield to the sensor.
  1. Use IPA wipes to clean the windshield bracket and new windshield HVAC sensor foam pad mating surface area. Allow the surface to dry for 1 minute.

    CAUTION
    Make sure all adhesive residue from the windshield is removed and the windshield is dry before installation. The foam pad will not stick if the windshield is wet. Align the located hole of the sensor with the plastic alignment pin on the windshield bracket.

    • IPA wipes
  2. Position the windshield HVAC sensor on the vehicle, and then install the new screws (x2) that attach the sensor to the windshield bracket.
    0.12 Nm (1 lbs-in)

    Do not over torque the screws, as they are very delicate and will strip out very easily.

    Ensure the hole on the PCB is aligned with the plastic alignment pin.

    • Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.10Nm - 0.6Nm
    • Wiha 1/4in adapter
    • PH00 blade attachment
  3. Connect the windshield HVAC sensor connector.
  4. Install the upper quad camera cover. See Upper Cover - Rear View Mirror (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the rear view mirror. See Mirror - Rear View (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the lower quad camera cover. See Camera Cover - Lower (Remove and Replace).
  7. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): UPDATE_CAN-REDEPLOYvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Drive Inverter DIRE1L Replacement ➜ CAN Redeploy
