Glass - Rear Quarter - LH (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
For Europe only: Only technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.

Remove

  1. Remove the rear trunk parcel shelf. See Parcel Shelf - Rear Trunk (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the LH 2nd row seat outer side bolster. See Bolster - Outer - Seat - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the LH lower C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH mid C-pillar trim, See Trim - C-Pillar - Mid - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Release the clips (x7) that attach the LH upper C-pillar trim to the vehicle, and then move the trim aside.
  7. Remove the LH body side brightwork. See Brightwork - Body Side - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Release LH side rocker seal from below LH rear quarter glass.

    Note
    Moving this seal aside will prevent damage during quarter glass removal.
  9. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear quarter glass to the body.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  10. Set up a pair of T-handles with square wire 6 feet long.
  11. Wrap the square wire around the rear edge of the LH rear quarter glass between the body and the seal, and then use a sawing motion to cut through the urethane to remove the glass from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use a trim tool to help guide the wire between the molding and glass.
    Tip: Use an equalizer blade most of the way to help avoid damage to the quarter glass.

    Note
    Use an equalizer blade to remove any remaining urethane still holding the glass in place.

    CAUTION
    If the glass is being re-used, be extremely cautious while using the square wire, as the wire tends to get caught in the quarter glass seal causing damage.
  12. Clean the remaining urethane from the body using a winged scraper set.
  13. Remove the body patches (x2) from the quarter panel.

Install

  1. Use an IPA wipe to clean the quarter panel surface area.

    Allow 1 minute dry time.
  2. Apply primer to the urethane path and any areas where the paint was damaged during the removal of the LH rear quarter glass. Allow the primer to dry for at least 2 minute.
  3. Install the body patches (x2) from the quarter panel.
  4. Prepare the caulking gun and urethane.

    Note
    The urethane opening must be 7 mm wide and 12 mm tall.
  5. Apply urethane to the LH rear quarter glass, following the original path.

    If quarter glass is being reused, apply urethane surrounding the datum location. This will eliminate potential wind noise.
  6. Position the LH rear quarter glass onto the vehicle.

    Note
    Start by positioning the datum into place. Verify the threads for bolt installation are aligned with the body. Apply pressure to the surrounding areas. Use tape to hold glass in place. Reference urethane being applied to confirm dry time.
  7. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear quarter glass to the body.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  8. Remove the masking tape from the LH rear quarter glass.
  9. Use an IPA wipe to clean the LH rear quarter glass and surrounding area of any residual debris.

    Allow 1 minute dry time.
  10. Install the LH rocker panel seal to the quarter panel area.

    Apply promoter to the double sided tape. If damage is present on double sided tape, replace with a new piece.
  11. Install the LH body side brightwork. See Brightwork - Body Side - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Move the LH upper C-pillar trim into position, and then fasten the clips (x7) that attach the trim to the vehicle.
  13. Install the LH mid C-pillar trim, See Trim - C-Pillar - Mid - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the LH lower C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the LH 2nd row seat outer side bolster. See Bolster - Outer - Seat - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the rear trunk parcel shelf. See Parcel Shelf - Rear Trunk (Remove and Replace).
