Fluid Coupling - Rear Drive Unit (Plaid) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the rear drive unit. See Drive Unit - Rear (Plaid) (Remove and Install).
  2. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  3. Release the electronic parking brake. See Park Brake Caliper - Release.
  4. Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  5. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  6. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  7. Set the high voltage multimeter to DC voltage, lightly touch the probes to the auxiliary battery connector contacts, and verify that the multimeter displays a voltage.

    Note
    Battery voltage is typically 14.5 to 15.5 volts.
  8. Remove the rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  10. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  11. Remove the leather glove protectors and HV insulating gloves.
  12. Remove the rear fascia diffuser. SeeDiffuser - Rear Fascia (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove the LH and RH rear wheel arch liners. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Remove the rear subframe assembly. See Subframe Assembly - Rear (Plaid) (Remove and Install).
  15. Remove the rear subframe assembly from under the vehicle.
  16. Position a fluid catcher under the subframe and fixture assembly.
  17. Release the hose clip, release the powertrain supply hose from the LH rear inverter, and then plug the hoses.

    Note
    Place towels underneath to catch any coolant.
  18. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the rear drive unit fluid coupling to the rear drive unit, and then remove the coupling from the inverter.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 socket

Install

  1. Lubricate the straight fluid coupling O-ring with coolant.

    CAUTION
    Do not install the fluid coupling with the O-ring dry.
  2. Install the rear drive unit fluid coupling into the rear drive unit, and then install a new bolt that attaches the coupling to the inverter.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 socket
  3. Remove the hose plugs, connect the powertrain supply hose onto the LH rear inverter, and then install the hose clip.

    Note
    Perform a push-pull-push test to verify the hose is fully secure.
  4. Remove the fluid catcher from under the subframe and fixture assembly.
  5. Install the rear subframe assembly. See Subframe Assembly - Rear (Plaid) (Remove and Install).
