Liftgate (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION

For Europe only: Only technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.

Remove

Open all four doors
Lower all four windows
Move LH front seat forward
Move RH front seat forward
Open liftgate
Remove parcel shelf
Remove trunk load floor
Fold 40 seat into down position

If seat cushion is not present, protect the seat as required
Remove RH side bolster trim

Remove the bolt securing LH and RH antenna amplifier

Remove LH and RH antenna amplifier

1x retainer, 1x datum, each Located on the back of the antenna amplifier, Carefully pry the antenna amplifier away to release the retainer
Disconnect LH antenna RF filter connector

Remove LH ground noise filter antenna

1x bolt, T30,4 Nm, 1x retaining clip, After bolt has been loosened release antenna from body
Disconnect connectors to LH and RH antenna amplifier

4x connectors, secure defrost harness onto backlite assembly
Disconnect +12V noise filter antenna from RH side of liftgate glass

Disconnect rear defrost grid harness from +12V noise filter antenna located on RH side of liftgate

Remove +12V noise filter antenna from RH side of liftgate

1x screw, T30, 2 Nm, 1x locating pin, Screw is self contained to filter
Apply tape to body surrounding backlite assembly for protection
Clean backlite and secure double suction cup handles onto both side of backlite assembly

2x double suction cup handles, 1 on each side of glass
Cut length of square wire to use with T-handles

Make sure there's adequate wire
Secure square wire into T-handle
Secure wire to starter tool and push tool through urethane at upper left side

Carefully push starter wire tool in between backlite assembly and Chimsel
Remove wire from starter tool and secure square wire into one T-handle
Remove wire starter tool from vehicle
Cut out and remove rear backlite assembly

Recommend assistance, if wire is getting caught on Chimsel, equalizer can be used to separate Chimsel from backlite assembly
Remove protective tape from body

Note
Inspect body and liftgate assembly for any nicks that may need touch up paint
Remove Chimsel from backlite assembly
Remove adhesive residue from backlite assembly

Carefully remove adhesive residue from backlite assembly
Remove urethane from backlite assembly

Carefully remove remaining urethane from backlite assembly
Release the LH reverse tail lamp connection

Remove butyl patch to access liftgate hinge to body nuts
Mark fastener location for installation

Location of nuts for hinge can be marked using masking tape, sharpie or lightly scribing with pocket screwdriver
Support liftgate with hood prop
Disconnect LH liftgate strut from liftgate

Close the trunk to check for gap/flush and make sure that the trunk closes as expected.

Install license plate frame screw grommets onto liftgate

Remove red tape covers from Chimsel

Remove Chimsel templates from backlite assembly

Check gap and flush of backlite assembly

Peel off adhesive backing film

Peel off adhesive backing when ready to install badge
Install rear T badge onto trunk

Note
Start from the bottom and work your way upwards, Use a roller to go over the badge, Apply pressure and allow the badge to fully adhere, Remove alignment tool
Remove adhesive film from badge once fully seated
Verify fitment of badge

Note
Visually inspect the badge and verify it is properly installed, Wipe away any contamination
