Brake Caliper - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift
  2. Place the vehicle into EPB Service Mode. See Park Brake Caliper - Release.
  3. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Disconnect the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) harness connector to the LH rear caliper motor.

    CAUTION
    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling to release the connector.
  5. Release the clip that attaches the air lines to the LH rear brake hose bracket.
  6. Release the LH rear brake hose from the LH rear lower control arm.
  7. Position an oil drain underneath LH rear corner of vehicle.
  8. Remove the brake line from the LH rear brake caliper. Catch any fluid lost in the oil drain.
  9. Disconnect the LH rear brake hose from the LH rear brake line. Catch any fluid lost in the oil drain.
  10. Remove the clip that attaches the LH rear brake hose to the bracket.
  11. Remove the LH rear brake hose from the vehicle.
  12. Remove the bolts that attach the LH rear caliper to the knuckle.

Install

  1. If a Mando caliper, perform these additional substeps.
    1. Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
    2. Use needle-nose pliers to ensure that the slots in the rear brake caliper piston face are at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions.
    3. Install the brake pads into the caliper.
  2. Install the bolts that attach the LH rear caliper to the knuckle.

    2x bolts, E18, 115 Nm
  3. Install the LH rear brake hose to the vehicle.

    CAUTION
    Route the hose behind sway bar link to prevent damage to the vehicle.
  4. Connect the LH rear brake hose to the LH rear brake line.

    1x nut, 12mm, 16 Nm
  5. Install the clip that attaches the LH rear brake hose to the bracket.
  6. Install the brake hose to the LH rear brake caliper.

    1x banjo bolt, 11mm, 42 Nm
  7. Remove the oil drain from beneath the vehicle.
  8. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake hose to the LH rear lower control arm.

    1x bolt, 10mm, 6 Nm
  9. Install the clip that attaches the air lines to the LH rear brake hose bracket.
  10. Connect the LH EPB caliper harness connector.

    CAUTION
    Push the red locking tab into the connector to engage the locking mechanism. DO NOT push down or pull up on the red locking tab.
  11. Perform a brake fluid flush on the LH rear wheel. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush (Remove and Replace).
  12. Perform vehicle road test using a series of ABS-active stops and make sure proper brake pedal feel and performance is achieved.
