Sub Assembly - Instrument Panel (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH and RH front doors.
  2. Lower the LH and RH front windows.
  3. Move the driver and front passenger seats fully rearward.
  4. Remove the LH and RH middle A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel end caps. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Adjust the steering column fully rearward and fully down.
  7. Open the hood.
  8. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  9. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  10. Remove the center console phone dock as an assembly, but do not remove the inductive charger from the phone dock. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the instrument panel service panel as an assembly, but do not remove the cabin temperature sensor fan from the service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the touchscreen as an assembly, but do not remove the display mechanism from the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW3) (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  14. Release the tabs (x4) that attach the instrument panel closeout panel to the instrument panel, and then remove the closeout panel from the vehicle.
  15. Remove the LH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the front passenger knee airbag as an assembly from the instrument panel, but do not separate the airbag from the cover. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  19. Remove the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  20. Remove the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  21. Disconnect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).

    Note
    Pull down the spring loaded locks simultaneously to release the airbag connectors
  22. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel carrier to the cross car beam.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  23. Remove the LH and RH upper A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  24. Release the clip that attaches the instrument panel decor electrical harness to the LH side of the instrument panel sub-assembly.
  25. Remove the screws (x3) that attach the LH lower instrument panel to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
  26. Remove the screws (x7) that attach the center lower instrument panel to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)

    1 screw connects the instrument panel ground harness.

    If using part revision 1562948-70-D on a non-HW4 vehicle, add ground strap 1679240-00-A to the aero lens assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
  27. Remove the screws (x3) that attach the RH lower instrument panel to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
  28. Disconnect the instrument panel trim harness, and then remove the clip that attaches it to the vehicle.
  29. Disconnect the instrument cluster electrical harness, and then remove the clip that attaches it to the vehicle.
  30. Position the lower instrument panel assembly away from the instrument panel sub-assembly.

    Move the top edge as far rearward as possible without excessive stress on the assembly.
  31. With an assistant, remove the instrument panel sub-assembly from the vehicle.

    Slide the instrument panel sub-assembly rearwards, and then lift the assembly up from the instrument panel carrier.

    Make sure that the air wave vents and front passenger airbag are clear of the lower instrument panel assembly.

    Note
    Remove the instrument panel sub-assembly out through the RH front door.

Install

  1. With an assistant, slide the instrument panel sub-assembly into vehicle.

    x4 datums.

    Note
    Make sure that the front passenger airbag and the driver vent assembly have clearance past the lower instrument panel assembly.
  2. Connect the instrument panel trim electrical harness, and then install the clip that attaches it to the vehicle.
  3. Connect the instrument cluster electrical harness, and then install the clip that attaches it to the vehicle.
  4. Install the clip that attaches the instrument panel decor electrical harness to the LH instrument panel sub-assembly.
  5. Position the lower instrument panel assembly onto the instrument panel sub-assembly.
  6. Install the screws (x3) that attach the LH lower instrument panel to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
  7. Install the screws (x7) that attach the center lower instrument panel to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)

  8. Install the screws (x3) that attach the RH lower instrument panel to the vehicle.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
  9. Install the LH and RH upper A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel carrier to the cross car beam.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  11. Connect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).
  12. Install the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  13. Install the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the front passenger knee airbag. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the LH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  18. Fasten the tabs (x4) that attach the instrument panel closeout panel to the instrument panel.
  19. Install the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW3) (Remove and Replace).
  21. Install the instrument panel service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  22. Install the center console phone dock. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  23. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  24. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  25. Restore the steering column back to its original position.
  26. Install the LH and RH instrument panel end caps. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  27. Install the LH and RH middle A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  28. Restore the driver and front passenger seats back to their original position.
  29. Raise the LH and RH front windows.
  30. Close the LH and RH front doors.
