Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the RH front door.
  2. Lower the RH front window.
  3. Move the front passenger seat fully rearward.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Remove the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the RH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the RH front sill trim panel. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the center console phone dock from the center console as an assembly. However, do not remove the inductive charger from the phone dock. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the instrument panel service panel from the center console as an assembly. However, do not remove the cabin temperature sensor fan from the service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW4) (Remove and Replace).
  13. Release the tabs (x4) that attach the instrument panel closeout panel to the instrument panel, and then remove the closeout panel from the instrument panel.
  14. Remove the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove the front passenger floor mat.
  16. Remove the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the RH center console side panel carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the front passenger knee airbag as an assembly. However, do not remove the components from the knee airbag assembly after the assembly has been removed from the instrument panel. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  19. Remove the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  20. Remove the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  21. Disconnect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).

    Note
    Pull down the spring loaded locks simultaneously to release the airbag electrical connectors.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
    • Plastic Trim Tool
  22. Remove and discard the bolts (x6) that attach the front passenger airbag to the instrument panel sub-assembly, and then remove the airbag from the vehicle.

    CAUTION
    Use hand tools to avoid stripping the bolts.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 6 in extension
    • External Torx E10
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench

Install

  1. Install the front passenger airbag on the vehicle, and the install the new bolts (x6) that attach the airbag to the instrument panel sub-assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 6 in extension
    • External Torx E10
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Torque wrench with angle measurement
  2. Connect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).
  3. Install the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  4. Install the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the front passenger knee airbag. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the front passenger floor mat.
  8. Install the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Fasten the tabs (x4) that attach the IP closeout panel.
  10. Install the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW4) (Remove and Replace).
  11. Install the instrument panel service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  12. Install the center console phone dock. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  13. Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the RH front sill trim panel. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the RH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Reconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  18. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  19. Restore the front passenger seat back to its original position.
  20. Raise the RH front window.
  21. Close the RH front door.
  22. Calibrate the LH and RH falcon wing doors by holding the upper B-pillar button in the down position.
