Hose - Inverter to Heat Exchanger - Rear Drive Unit (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Move the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  6. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  7. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  9. Place a shop tower over the HV harness.
  10. Position a coolant drain container underneath the LH rear of vehicle.
  11. Release the edge clip from the subframe.
  12. Release the hose clip, disconnect the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose from the inverter coupling, and then allow the fluid to drain.
    Tip: Use a long radiator hose pick to release the clip for the rear drive unit hose.
  13. Raise the vehicle fully and lower lift onto locks.
  14. Release the hose clip, disconnect the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose from the oil cooler, and then allow the fluid to drain.
  15. Position the coolant drain underneath the RH rear of vehicle.
  16. Carefully release the clips (x4) that attach the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose to the vehicle.
  17. Carefully manuever the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose out from under the subframe to remove it from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose into the subframe.
  2. Connect the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose to the oil cooler, and then install the hose clip.

    Note
    Perform push-pull-push testto verify the hose is properly seated.
  3. Secure the clips (x4) that attach the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose to the vehicle.
  4. Lower the vehicle partially and set lift onto locks.
  5. Connect the rear drive unit inverter to heat exchanger hose to the inverter coupling, and then secure the hose clip.

    Note
    Perform push-pull-push testto verify the hose is properly seated.
  6. Install the edge clip to the subframe.
  7. Install the rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Raise the vehicle fully and lower lift onto locks.
  9. Use a shop towel to clean away all residue from under drive unit, and then remove all the shop towels.
  10. Install the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove coolant bottle cap.
  12. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Note
    Ensure that the fluid level is at the Max line.
  13. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  14. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): TEST_VCFRONT_X_THERMAL-COOLANT-AIR-PURGEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Purge Stop or Coolant Purge Start
    • Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Coolant Purge Start
    via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Front Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Left Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Right Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge

    Note
    Make sure the vehicle is not in drive state. Putting vehicle into drive state will stop this routine. Monitor the levels as required.
  15. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.

  16. Install the coolant bottle cap.
  17. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  18. Install the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).
  19. Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  21. Calibrate the rear doors.

    If the "Calibration Needed" message appears on the vehicle touchscreen, touch and hold Calibrate to calibrate the rear doors.
  22. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
