Brake Lines - HCU to Side Sill (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH rear door and lower the LH rear window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Open the hood.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the RH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - RH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the LH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  9. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  10. Remove all wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  11. Remove the LH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Disconnect the LH front repeater electrical connectors (x2).
  13. Release the clip that attaches the LH repeater electrical harness to the body.
  14. Disconnect the ground junction connector G500.

    Note
    Release the red locking tab. Press the black tab and rotate the lever to release it.
  15. Remove the bolt that attaches the junction ground terminal to the body.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  16. Put shop towels underneath the brake lines to catch any brake fluid that may leak.
  17. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector.

    Note
    Pull the red tab to disengage the lock, and then pull again to release the electrical connector. Do not push down on the red tab.
  18. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the 4-tube bundle brake lines to the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm ratcheting combination wrench flex head
  19. Remove the nut that attaches the front flexible master cylinder brake line to the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm ratcheting combination wrench flex head
  20. Put shop towels underneath the sill brake line junction to catch any brake fluid lost.
  21. Release the nuts (x2) that attach the side sill-to-HCU brake bundle to the side sill brake bundle.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm combination wrench
  22. Release the clips (x2) that attach the side sill-to-HCU brake bundle to the HCU bracket.
  23. Remove the side sill-to-HCU brake bundle from the vehicle.

    Note
    Feed the brake lines upward from the wheel house, rotate the bundle to clear the HCU, and then remove it from the frunk.

Install

  1. Position the side sill-to-HCU brake lines bundle to the vehicle.

    Feed the brake lines upward from the wheel house, then rotate the bundle to clear the HCU and remove from the frunk area.
  2. Install the nuts (x2) that attach the side sill-to-HCU brake bundle to the side sill brake bundle.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm combination wrench
  3. Secure the clips (x2) that attach the side sill-to-HCU brake bundle to the HCU bracket.
  4. Remove the shop towels from underneath the sill brake line junction.

    Note
    Clean up any residual brake fluid in the area.
  5. Install the nut that attaches the front flexible master cylinder brake line to the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm ratcheting combination wrench flex head
  6. Remove the remaining protective tape, and then install the nuts (x4) that attach the 4-tube bundle brake lines to the HCU.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm ratcheting combination wrench flex head

    Note
    Clean the brake lines with brake cleaner before mating, as needed.
  7. Connect the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector.
  8. Remove the shop towels from underneath the brake lines.

    Clean up any residual fluid lost.
  9. Install the bolt that attaches the junction ground terminal to the body.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  10. Connect the ground junction connector G500.

    Note
    Secure the red locking tab.
  11. Fasten the LH repeater electrical harness to the body.
  12. Connect the LH front repeater electrical connectors (x2).

    Support the repeater from the exterior to prevent damage to the retaining clips.
  13. Install the LH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the RH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - RH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the LH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  18. Reconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  19. Bleed the brakes. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install all wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  21. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  22. Calibrate the rear doors.

    If the "Calibration Needed" message appears on the vehicle touchscreen, touch and hold Calibrate to calibrate the rear doors
  23. Perform a road test and ensure proper brake pedal feel and performance.
