Aero Lens - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace)

Note
Replacement aero lens assemblies may have had certain datums/mounting tabs removed. This is normal and does not negatively affect vehicle functionality.

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door.
  2. Lower the LH and RH front windows.
  3. Move the driver seat fully rearward.
  4. Remove the LH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH instrument panel LH middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the LH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Adjust the steering column fully rearward and fully down.
  10. Open the RH front door.
  11. Move the front passenger seat fully rearward.
  12. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  13. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  14. Remove the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove the RH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the RH front door sill trim panel. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the RH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Remove the RH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  20. Remove the center console phone dock from the center console as an assembly. However, do not remove the inductive charger from the phone dock. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  21. Remove the instrument panel service panel from the center console as an assembly. However, do not remove the cabin temperature sensor fan from the service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  22. Remove the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW3) (Remove and Replace).
  23. Release the tabs (x4) that attach the instrument panel closeout panel to the instrument panel, and then remove the closeout panel from the instrument panel.
  24. Remove the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  25. Remove the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  26. Remove the front passenger floor mat.
  27. Remove the front passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  28. Remove the RH center console side panel carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  29. Remove the front passenger knee airbag as an assembly. However, do not remove the components from the knee airbag assembly after the assembly has been removed from the instrument panel. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  30. Remove the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  31. Remove the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  32. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel carrier cross beam.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  33. Disconnect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).

    Pull down the spring loaded locks simultaneously to release the airbag electrical connectors.
  34. Remove the RH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  35. Remove the center lower instrument panel screws (x6).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)

    If using part revision 1562948-70-D on a non-HW4 vehicle, add ground strap 1679240-00-A to the aero lens assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  36. Remove the LH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  37. Release the instrument cluster electrical harness clip, and then disconnect the electrical connector.
  38. Release the instrument panel trim electrical harness, and then disconnect the electrical connector.
  39. Position the lower instrument panel assembly away from the instrument panel sub-assembly.

    Datums (x6).

    Move the top edge as far rearward as possible without excessive stress on the assembly.
  40. Release the instrument panel ground harness clip, and then remove the ground harness bolt.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

    If using part revision 1562948-70-D on a non-HW4 vehicle, add ground strap 1679240-00-A to the aero lens assembly.
  41. With an assistant, remove the instrument panel sub-assembly.

    Slide the instrument panel sub-assembly rearward, and then lift the assembly up from the instrument panel carrier.

    Make sure the air waves vents and front passenger airbag are clear of lower instrument panel assembly.

    Note
    Remove the instrument panel sub-assembly out through the RH front door.
  42. Disconnect the air wave ventilation electrical connectors (x4).

    Place the instrument panel sub-assembly upside down on a protective surface to access the electrical connectors.
  43. Remove the screws (x5) that attach the instrument panel aero lens assembly to the instrument panel sub-assembly.
    2.5 Nm (1.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  44. Rotate the instrument panel sub-assembly forward to release the tabs (x8) that attach it to the instrument panel aero lens assembly.
  45. Remove the instrument panel aero lens from the instrument panel sub-assembly.
  46. Remove the passenger vent assembly screws (x4).
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  47. Remove the driver vent assembly screws (x5).
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  48. Release the RH aero lens cover clip.
  49. Release the LH aero lens cover clip.

Install

  1. Install the screws (x5) that attach the driver vent assembly to the instrument panel aero lens.
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  2. Install the passenger vent assembly screws (x4).
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  3. Fasten the RH aero lens end cap clip.
  4. Fasten the LH aero lens end cap clip.
  5. Position the instrument panel aero lens to the instrument panel sub-assembly.

    Note
    Align the tabs (x8) from the instrument panel sub-assembly into the instrument panel aero lens.
  6. Rotate the instrument panel aero lens into the instrument panel sub-assembly and fasten it with tabs (x8).

    Rotate the instrument panel sub-assembly rearward to engage the tabs (x8).
  7. Install the screws (x5) that attach the instrument panel aero lens to the instrument panel sub-assembly.
    2.5 Nm (1.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  8. Connect the air wave ventilation electrical connectors (x4).
  9. With an assistant, install the instrument panel sub-assembly.

    Slide the instrument panel sub-assembly into the vehicle.

    Make sure the front passenger airbag and the driver vent assembly have clearance past the lower instrument panel assembly.

    Engage the instrument panel sub-assembly datums (x4) into the dash slots.
  10. Install the bolt that attaches the instrument panel ground harness.
    3.5 Nm (2.6 lbs-ft)

    If using part revision 1562948-70-D on a non-HW4 vehicle, add ground strap 1679240-00-A to the aero lens assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  11. Secure the clip that attaches the instrument panel trim harness to the vehicle, and then connect the electrical connector.
  12. Connect the instrument cluster harness electrical connector.
  13. Position the lower instrument panel assembly into the instrument panel sub-assembly.
  14. Install the LH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  15. Install the center lower instrument panel screws (x6).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  16. Install the RH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  17. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel carrier cross beam.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  18. Connect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).
  19. Install the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  21. Install the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  22. Install the front passenger knee airbag. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  23. Install the RH center console side panel carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the front passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  25. Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  26. Install the RH front sill panel trim. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  27. Install the front passenger floor mat.
  28. Install the RH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  29. Install the RH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  30. Install the RH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  31. Install the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  32. Install the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  33. Fasten the tabs (x4) that attach the IP closeout panel.
  34. Install the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW3) (Remove and Replace).
  35. Install the instrument panel service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  36. Install the center console phone dock. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  37. Reconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  38. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  39. Restore the front passenger seat back to its original position.
  40. Calibrate the RH rear door by holding the upper B-pillar button in the down position.
  41. Close the RH front door.
  42. Install the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  43. Install the LH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  44. Install the LH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  45. Install the LH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  46. Install the LH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  47. Restore the steering column back to its original position.
  48. Restore the driver seat back to its original position.
  49. Calibrate the LH rear door by holding the upper B-pillar button in the down position.
  50. Raise the LH and RH front windows.
  51. Close the LH front door.
