Cover - Knee Air Bag - RH (2025+) (Remove and Replace)

Note
This procedure describes work that is specific to 2025+ Model X.

Remove

  1. Open both front doors and lower both front windows.
  2. Move the RH front seat backward.
  3. Remove the RH front floor mat.
  4. Remove the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the RH console side carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  8. Remove the clip and the bolts (x2) that attach the RH knee air bag assembly to the vehicle.

    Note
    Discard the bolts after removal.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  9. Disconnect the connectors (x2), and then release the clip and the tabs (x6) to remove the RH knee air bag assembly from the vehicle.

    Note
    Release the 2 locking tabs on the air bag connector.
  10. Remove and discard the patch bolts (x2) that secure the RH knee air bag cover brace.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E10
  11. Remove and discard the patch bolts (x4) that attach the knee air bag to the RH knee air bag cover, and release the tabs (x5) and rotate the knee air bag cover out from the vehicle.

    • External Torx E10

Install

  1. Rotate the knee air bag into the cover and secure the tabs (x5), and then install new patch bolts (x4) (1116594-00-B) that attach the knee air bag to the RH knee air bag cover.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  2. Install new patch bolts (x2) (1116594-00-B) that secure the RH knee air bag cover brace.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  3. Secure the tabs (x6) and the clip to install the RH knee air bag assembly onto the vehicle, and then connect the connectors (x2).

    Note
    Hook the tabs before fully seating. Use caution not to damage the connector/harness. Support the knee air bag while connecting the connector.
  4. Install the clip and new bolts (x2) (1116594-00-B) that attach the RH knee air bag assembly to the vehicle.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    • 10 mm socket
  5. Install the RH console side carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Install the RH front floor mat.
  9. Connect the LV battery power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  10. Move the RH front seat to its original position.
  11. Hold the upper B-pillar button in the down position to manually calibrate the LH and RH falcon wing doors.
  12. Close both front doors and raise both front windows.
