Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Move the driver seat forward and raise the seat to the highest position.

    CAUTION
    Adjust the seat back to avoid contact with the headliner, if necessary.
  3. Use a flathead screwdriver to rotate the lock mechanism on the front seat belt linkage counterclockwise to release it from the pretensioner, and then slide the linkage off the pretensioner and set it aside.

    CAUTION
    DO NOT rotate clockwise to avoid damage to the mechanism.

    The linkage design may vary, but will function the same.

    The lock screw will remain in the horizontal position when released.

    A light audible click will be heard when the linkage is released.
  4. Remove the screw that attaches the driver seat outboard side shield to the seat assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Carefully release the clips (x7) that attach the driver seat outboard side shield to the seat assembly, but do not fully remove the side shield from the seat assembly.
  6. Disconnect the electrical harness from the seat switch.
  7. Remove the driver seat cushion adjust button. See Button - Cushion Adjust - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the driver seat recliner adjust button. See Button - Recliner Adjust - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the screws (x3) that attach the back rest and cushion adjust switch to the driver seat outboard side shield, and then remove the switch from the side shield.

    Warning
    Do not remove the Philips head screws or damage may occur to the seat switch.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench

Install

  1. Position the back rest and cushion adjust switch onto the driver seat outboard side shield, and then install the screws (x3) that attach the switch to the side shield.
    1.7 Nm (1.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  2. Install the driver seat recliner adjust button. See Button - Recliner Adjust - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  3. Install the driver seat cushion adjust button. See Button - Cushion Adjust - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  4. Connect the electrical harness to the back rest and cushion adjust switch assembly, and then verify the functions of the seat switches.
  5. Position the driver seat outboard side shield onto the seat, and then install the clips (x7) that attach the side shield to the seat.
    Tip: Apply pressure to the side shield to fully seat the clips. The side shield should sit flush against the seat cushion.
  6. Install the screw that attaches the driver seat outboard side shield to the seat assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  7. Install the front seat belt linkage to the pretensioner:
    1. Make sure the lock screw is in the horizontal position. If the lock screw is not in the horizontal position, follow the release instructions to unlock it.
    2. Verify there are no twists in the seat belt from the upper B-pillar trim to the pretensioner.
    3. Install the linkage onto the pretensioner cable.

      The lock screw will rotate back to the locked position.
    4. Perform a firm pull test on the seat belt with at least 15 pounds of force.
  8. Move the driver seat to the original position.
  9. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
