Brake Caliper - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Release the park brake caliper using Toolbox. See Park Brake Caliper - Release - Toolbox.
  4. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Disconnect the EPB electrical connector to the LH caliper motor.

    Note
    Disengage the locking tab, and then release the electrical connector.
  6. Remove the LH rear flexible brake hose. See Brake Hose - Flexible - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the rear brake caliper to the rear knuckle, and then remove the caliper from the vehicle.
    115 Nm (84.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18

    Note
    Hang the caliper from the body, if not fully removing it.

    Route the caliper hose so that it does not get caught on the rear stabilizer bar.

Install

  1. If a Mando caliper, perform these additional substeps.
    1. Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
    2. Use needle-nose pliers to ensure that the slots in the rear brake caliper piston face are at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions.
    3. Install the brake pads into the caliper.
  2. Install the rear brake caliper to the knuckle, and then secure the caliper with bolts (x2).
    115 Nm (84.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  3. Install the LH rear flexible brake hose. See Brake Hose - Flexible - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Connect the LH EPB caliper electrical connector.

    Note
    Fully seat the electrical connector, and then engage the locking tab.
  5. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  6. Bleed the brakes. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  8. Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Hold the brake pedal and shift into Park on the touchscreen to disable EPB service mode.
