Backlight Glass (Remove and Install)

Remove
- Remove the lower liftgate trim. See Trim - Liftgate - Lower (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the liftgate speaker grille. See Grille - Speaker - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the liftgate upper trim. See Trim - Upper - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the RH active spoiler catch basin cover. See Cover - Catch Basin - Active Spoiler - LH (Remove and Replace).

Release the clip, and then disconnect
the CHMSL electrical connector.
NoteRelease the clip from the liftgate assembly.
- Remove the LH active spoiler catch basin cover. See Cover - Catch Basin - Active Spoiler - LH (Remove and Replace).

Disconnect the defroster grid and
antenna electrical connectors (x4) located on the LH and RH side of the backlight
glass.
- Close the liftgate.

Apply masking tape to areas around the
liftgate and the active spoiler to prevent damage to the vehicle.
- Remove the spoiler applique. See Applique - Spoiler (Remove and Install).

Clean and remove excess urethane from
the surface of the spoiler lower wing assembly.

Release the CHMSL electrical harness
from the lower spoiler wing assembly.

Clean and remove excess urethane from
underneath of the passive spoiler upper wing.
NotePlace passive spoiler upper wing onto a soft surface and carefully remove the excess urethane.

Remove the screws (x4) that attach the
passive spoiler assembly.
NoteT30. Torque 6 Nm.
- Open the liftgate.

Remove the LH pushpin clips (x3) that
attach the liftgate side pinch sensor.
-
Remove the RH pushpin clips (x3) that
attach the liftgate side pinch sensor.
-
Disconnect the upper rear liftgate
pinch strip connector on the LH side of the rear liftgate.
NoteTape the harnesses to the liftgate to secure aside.

Remove the front liftgate pinch sensor
from backlight glass.
NotePinch sensor is adhered with double sided tape.

Use equalizer blade to cut the
adhesive on the top portion of backlight glass on liftgate assembly.

Cut an appropriate length of square
wire.
-
Insert the wire starter through the
adhesive near one of the upper corner.
NotePull the wire through and remove the wire installer tool from the liftgate glass.

Close the liftgate with an assistant
inside.
-
Connect the T-handles to the
wire.
-
Use T-handles to cut the urethane
securing the backlight glass to the liftgate.
CAUTIONUse protective material to prevent damage.

With an assistant, attach suction cups
(x2) to the backlight glass, and then lift up to remove the backlight glass from the
liftgate assembly.
Note1 suction cup each side.
Install
-
Clean and remove the old adhesive from
the backlight frame.
-
Remove the masking tape from the
liftgate assembly.
-
Inspect the backlight glass for any
damage that is not serviceable.
NoteReplace the backlight glass if there is any damage that cannot be rectified. Damages include cracked glass and damaged heater grid.

Remove the urethane bead from the
backlight glass.
-
Use an IPA wipe to clean the urethane
path on the backlight glass assembly.
NoteAllow 1 minute for dry time.

Apply the primer onto the backlight
glass assembly.
-
Prepare the caulking gun and
urethane.
NoteOpening must be 8 mm wide and 14 mm tall.

Apply the urethane following the
primer path on the backlight glass assembly.

Install suction cups (x2) onto the
backlight glass assembly.
Note1 suction cup on each side of the backlight glass.

With an assistant, install the
backlight glass onto the liftgate assembly.
NoteLocating pins (x2).
-
Check the gap and flush
measurements.
NoteUse the current CVIS specifications.
-
Apply tape to secure the backlight
glass to the body while the urethane cures.
- Remove the suction cups from the backlight glass assembly.
-
Install the screws (x4) that attach
the spoiler assembly.
NoteT30. Torque 6 Nm.
- Install the spoiler applique. See Applique - Spoiler (Remove and Install).
- Open the liftgate.

Connect the defroster grid and antenna
electrical connectors (x4) on RH and LH sides.
-
Install the clip and connect the
electrical harness to the CHMSL assembly.
NoteSecure the clip onto the liftgate assembly.
- Install the LH active spoiler catch basin cover. See Cover - Catch Basin - Active Spoiler - LH (Remove and Replace).

Apply adhesive promoter to the rear
upper edge of the liftgate glass.
NoteAllow it to dry to the touch.

Position the pinch sensor through the
upper liftgate, and then set into place.
NoteMake sure the connector is on the left side of the vehicle and align the sensor end with the sensor carrier. Peel the red backing from the double sided tape piece for piece while installing.

Remove the adhesive tape backing from
the pinch sensor, and then start attaching the sensor onto the rear liftgate
glass.
NoteStart on the right side moving to the left.

Connect the front liftgate pinch
sensor to the LH side pinch sensor assembly.

Install the LH pushpin clips (x3) that
attach the liftgate side pinch sensor.

Install the RH pushpin clips (x3) that
attach the liftgate side pinch sensor.

- Install the liftgate speaker grille. See Grille - Speaker - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Install the lower liftgate trim. See Trim - Liftgate - Lower (Remove and Replace).
