Pedal Assembly (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door.
  2. Lower the LH and RH front windows.
  3. Move the driver seat fully rearwards.
  4. Adjust the steering column fully rearwards and fully down.
  5. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel end caps. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH and RH middle A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the LH front sill panel trim. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the LH and RH lower A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the LH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the LH and RH sun visor bezel A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the LH and RH upper A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Open the RH front door.
  13. Move the front passenger seat fully rearwards.
  14. Remove the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove the RH center console side panel carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the RH front sill panel trim. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Open the hood.
  18. Power off the vehicle via touchscreen.

  19. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  20. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  21. Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace)
  22. Remove the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).
  23. Remove the underhood storage unit access panel. See Underhood Storage Unit Access Panel (Remove and Replace).
  24. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  25. Remove the RH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - RH (Remove and Replace).
  26. Remove the LH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  27. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  28. Remove the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  29. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the upper steering column bracket IP carrier bolts at the bulkhead.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  30. Remove the center console phone dock as an assembly. However, do not remove the inductive charger from the assembly. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  31. Remove the instrument panel service panel as an assembly. However, do not remove the cabin temperature sensor from the service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  32. Remove the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW3) (Remove and Replace).
  33. Remove the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  34. Remove the front passenger knee airbag as an assembly. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  35. Remove the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  36. Remove the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  37. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the IP carrier cross beam.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  38. Disconnect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).

    Note
    Pull down the spring loaded locks simultaneously to release the electrical connectors.
  39. Remove the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  40. Remove the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  41. Remove the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  42. Remove the LH front floor mat.
  43. Remove the driver outboard footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Outboard - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  44. Remove the driver inboard footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Inboard - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  45. Remove the driver knee airbag as an assembly from the instrument panel. However, do not remove the knee airbag cover brace from the airbag assembly. See Knee Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  46. Remove the steering column upper shroud. See Shroud - Upper - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  47. Remove the steering column lower shroud. Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  48. Remove the steering column control module. See Module - Steering Column Control (Remove and Replace).
  49. Remove the lower instrument panel. See Instrument Panel - Lower (Remove and Replace).
  50. Remove the instrument panel sub-assembly. See Sub Assembly - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  51. Remove the driver instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  52. Remove the driver outboard jumper duct. See Duct - Jumper - Outboard - Driver (Remove and Replace.
  53. Release the brake light switch.

    Note
    Brake light switch is located at the top of pedal assembly.

    Note
    Rotate the brake light switch counterclockwise 45 degrees, and then remove from brake pedal assembly.
  54. Disconnect the brake light switch electrical connector, and then remove the brake light switch from the vehicle.

    Make sure the brake light switch is in neutral position: The switch piston should have no spring resistance.
  55. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the upper steering column to the IP carrier.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket

    Note
    Rotate and set aside.
  56. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the upper steering column bracket.
    20 Nm (14.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  57. Release the clips (x3) and the electrical connector for the pedal electrical harness.

    Note
    Pull to disengage lock, and then pull again to release connector. Do not push down on the red tab.
  58. Remove the cotter clip from the clevis pin, and then remove the clevis pin from the brake pedal assembly.
  59. Remove and discard the nyloc nuts (x5) that attach the pedal assembly to the bulkhead.
    16.5 Nm (12.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket

    Note
    Discard the nuts after removal.

Install

  1. Install new nyloc nuts (x5) that attach the pedal assembly to the bulkhead.
    16.5 Nm (12.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket

    Install new nyloc nuts.

    Note
    May need to pull the brake booster inward to seat the studs.
  2. Install the clevis pin to the brake pedal assembly, and then insert the cotter clip into the clevis pin.
  3. Fasten the clips (x3) and connect the electrical connector for the pedal electrical harness.
  4. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the upper steering column bracket.
    20 Nm (14.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  5. Install the IP carrier bolts (x2) at the bulkhead.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  6. Install the nuts (x4) that attach the upper steering column to the IP carrier, and then install the electrical connector.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket

    Note
    Make sure that the harness is not pinched between the IP carrier and the steering column.
  7. Inspect the brake light switch.

    Make sure the brake switch is in the neutral position before installation. Gently rotate the tab into neutral position, if not set.
  8. Connect the brake light switch electrical connector.
  9. Install the brake light switch.

    Do not press the brake pedal during installation.

    Rotate the brake light switch clockwise until it is in the locked position and flush to brake pedal assembly.
  10. Install the driver outboard jumper duct. See Duct - Jumper - Outboard - Driver (Remove and Replace.
  11. Install the driver instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  12. Install the instrument panel sub-assembly. See Sub Assembly - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove the lower instrument panel. See Instrument Panel - Lower (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the steering column control module. See Module - Steering Column Control (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the steering column lower shroud. Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the steering column upper shroud. See Shroud - Upper - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the driver knee airbag. See Knee Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  18. Install the LH center console side panel carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Install the driver inboard footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Inboard - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the driver outboard footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Outboard - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  21. Install the LH front floor mat.
  22. Install the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  23. Install the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  25. Connect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).
  26. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the IP carrier cross beam.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  27. Install the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  28. Install the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  29. Install the front passenger knee airbag. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  30. Install the RH center console side panel carpet. See Carpet - Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  31. Install the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  32. Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  33. Install the RH front sill panel trim. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  34. Install the RH front floor mat.
  35. Install the RH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  36. Install the RH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  37. Install the RH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  38. Install the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  39. Install the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  40. Install the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (HW3) (Remove and Replace).
  41. Install the instrument panel service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  42. Install the center console phone dock. See Phone Dock - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  43. Install the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  44. Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  45. Install the RH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - RH (Remove and Replace).
  46. Install the LH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  47. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  48. Install the underhood storage unit access panel. See Underhood Storage Unit Access Panel (Remove and Replace).
  49. Install the front underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Front (Remove and Replace).
  50. Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  51. Reconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  52. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  53. Restore the front passenger seat back to its original position.
  54. Install the LH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  55. Install the LH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  56. Install the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  57. Install the LH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  58. Install the LH middle A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  59. Install the LH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  60. Restore the steering column back to its original position.
  61. Restore the driver seat back to its original position.
  62. Calibrate the rear doors.

    If the "Calibration Needed" message appears on the vehicle touchscreen, touch and hold Calibrate to calibrate the rear doors.
