Active Damper - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)

Correction code 31106002 1.26 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure proper PPE is worn when performing the below procedure.

Remove

  1. Raise the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the IP service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  3. Deflate the reservoir. See Deflate the Reservoir.
  4. Locally connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox (Connect and Disconnect).
  5. In Toolbox 3.0, perform the following steps.
    1. Click the Actions tab, type "TAS" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox:(link), click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
    2. Click the Actions tab, type "Deflate Spring" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATEvia Service Mode:Chassis ➜ Suspension ➜ Deflatevia Toolbox:(link), change the timeout to 100, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  6. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the LH upper C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the LH rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the nuts (x3) that attach the LH rear air spring module to the body.

    Note
    Move aside the trim for access.
  10. Remove the nut that attaches the air suspension line to the LH rear air spring module.
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)

    • Combination Wrench 12pt 10mm
  11. Remove the VOSS fitting from the air spring module air line. Discard after removal.
    1. Slide the threaded section back.
    2. Remove the collet.
    3. Slide the threaded section off the air line.
  12. Disengage the locking tab, then disconnect the LH EPB harness connector from the LH caliper motor.
  13. Release the grommet, then disconnect the LH rear active damper harness connectors (x2).

    Note the original harness routing. The LH and RH harnesses are routed differently.
  14. Release the tabs (x2), then lift up to remove LH rear damper harness bracket from the air spring module.
  15. Release the harness clip from the LH rear knuckle.
  16. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear upper aft link to the knuckle.

  17. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear upper fore link to the LH rear knuckle.

  18. Loosen the bolts (x2) that attach the LH upper fore link to the subframe.

  19. Remove the nut and bolt that attach the LH rear air spring module to the LH rear knuckle.

    • 1/2 inch socket wrench hexagon short SKTWRNCH-1/2IN-SHORT-HEX-WS21 ZEBRA
  20. With assistance, separate the LH rear air spring from the knuckle and maneuver it out from the vehicle.

Install

  1. With assistance, position the LH rear air spring module into the vehicle.
    1. Start by feeding in the upper portion of the strut.
    2. Line up the studs with the body holes.
    3. Pivot the lower bushing into the knuckle.
    4. Use a pin punch to aid in lining up the knuckle.

  2. Install the nut and bolt that attach the LH rear air spring module to the LH rear knuckle.

  3. Insert the bolt that attaches the LH rear upper aft link to the knuckle, then thread in fully.

  4. Install the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear upper fore link to the LH rear knuckle.

  5. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH upper fore link to the subframe.
    85 Nm (62.7 lbs-ft)

  6. Install the nuts (x3) that attach the LH rear air spring module to the body, then move the trim back into place.
    40 Nm (29.5 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Tighten down evently to fully secure the nuts.
  7. Secure the harness clip onto the LH rear knuckle.
  8. Raise vehicle partially and lower onto locks.

    Set vehicle to comfortable working height, Make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side.
  9. Secure the tabs (x2) that attach the LH rear damper harness bracket to the air spring module.
  10. Secure the grommet, then connect the LH rear active damper harness connectors (x2).

    Note
    Route the harness properly to the original location; otherwise, the harness will rub and wear. For the LH rear harness, secure the inboard (bottom) connector first, then secure the outboard (top) connector. See image for reference.
  11. Fully seat the LH EPB harness connector to the LH caliper motor, then engage the locking tab.
  12. Torque the nut and bolt that attach the LH rear air spring module to the LH rear knuckle.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)

  13. Torque the bolt that attaches the LH rear upper aft link to the knuckle, then thread in fully.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)

  14. Torque the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear upper fore link to the LH rear knuckle.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)

  15. Remove the white plug from the LH rear air spring module fitting, then fully insert the air line into the fitting until it sits between the two marks on the line.

    Verify the air line is properly seated by performing push and pull test.
  16. Install the LH rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the LH upper C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  18. Refill the reservoir. See Refill the Reservoir.
  19. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the IP service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  21. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
  22. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
