Cooling System (Partial Refill and Bleed)

Procedure

  1. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode (Enable and Disable).
  2. Go to the Service Mode menu (the "wrench" icon), and then go to the thermal system service menu (the "snowflake" icon).

    Note
    If prompted to unlock the vehicle gateway, place the vehicle key on the phone dock, hold the right turn signal, and press the brake pedal for 10 seconds.
  3. START the "Start Thermal Fill Drain (Coolant only)" routine.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove coolant bottle cap.
  7. Use an inspection mirror to make sure that the coolant level is at the Max line, and top off if necessary.
  8. START the "Start Coolant Air Purge" routine, and allow the routine to complete.

    Make sure that the drive rails are off. Turning on the drive rails will stop the routine.

    While the routine is running, monitor the coolant bottle and add coolant as necessary to keep the fluid level between NOM and MAX.

    The air purge lasts approximately 10 minutes.
  9. If a thermal performance check is desired, continue to the next step, otherwise, skip to step 12.
  10. Click the Actions/Autodiag tab, and type 'Thermal' into the search field.
  11. Click Heat Pump Thermal System Performance TestTEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_HEAT-PUMP-THERMAL-PERFORMANCEModelY/tasks/TEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_HEAT-PUMP-THERMAL-PERFORMANCELow Voltage Controllers, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    If the thermal performance test fails, refer to Toolbox article #206000.
  12. Make sure that the coolant level is at the MAX line, and top off if necessary.
  13. Install the coolant bottle cap.
  14. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  15. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  16. Disable Service Mode. See Service Mode (Enable and Disable).
