Foam - Back Rest - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace)

Remove
- Remove the driver seat from the vehicle. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Install).
- With assistance, place the driver seat on a protected surface so that the underside of the seat can be accessed.

Release the seat back elastic straps
(x2) from the seat frame.

Disconnect the FSB vent heat pad electrical connector from the driver seat
controller.

Release the clip and bracket that
attach the FSC and FSB vent heat pad harnesses to the seat assembly, and then remove the
harnesses from the assembly.
NoteOne harness is for the seat cushion and the other is for the seat back. The upper bracket aids in routing while the lower clip secures them.
- Position the seat assembly upright.
- Remove the driver seat headrest. See Trim - Headrest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the driver seat back shell. See .

Disconnect the fan controller
electrical connector from the seat harness.

Disconnect the driver seat microphone
electrical connector, and then release clip that attaches the harness to the driver seat
back rest foam.

Release the female side of the
microphone connector and harness clips (x2) from the seat back suspension.

Release the trim strap, and then
release the trim retainers (x6) that attach the seat back trim retainers to the seat
back frame.

Carefully release the driver seat
cover from the driver seat, and then set the cover aside for access.

Release the clip that attaches the
driver seat side airbag harness to the driver seat seat frame.

Push down on the tab to release the
driver seat side air bag electrical connector, and then disconnect the connector.

Remove the bolt that attaches the
bottom of the lumbar support to the seat assembly.NoteThe bolt is located below the lumbar ECU. Removing this bolt allows ease of access for the following step.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket

Carefully pull the seat cover and foam
assembly away from the frame, and then remove and discard the nuts (x2) that attach the
driver seat side air bag to the seat back frame assembly.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 11 mm socket

Carefully separate the air bag chute
away from the seat back frame.
CAUTIONDo not remove the airbag from the airbag chute.

With assistance, remove the driver
seat back trim assembly from the seat frame.

Slide the airbag chute with the airbag
still inside through the seatback foam, and then carefully remove the airbag from the
airbag chute.
CAUTIONMake sure that the driver side airbag mounting studs do not catch in the holes of the airbag chute.CAUTIONHandle the airbag with extreme care when removing it from the airbag chute. The airbag is configured/folded in a specific manner and will need to be replaced if it is dropped, altered or manipulated in any way.

Release the Velcro strips (x4) that
attach the driver seat back rest trim to the seat back rest foam, and then remove the
trim from the assembly.

Remove the driver seat microphone
assembly from the driver seat back rest foam.
NoteFeed the harness through the access hole on the driver seat back rest foam.
Install
-
Position the driver seat microphone
onto the driver back rest foam, and then feed the harness through the access on the foam
to install the microphone onto the foam.

Position the driver seat back rest
trim onto the driver seat back rest foam, and then align the Velcro strips (x4).

Install the driver side airbag into
the airbag chute, and then slide the airbag chute with the airbag inside through the
slot in the seat back foam.
CAUTIONMake sure that the driver side airbag mounting studs extend out of the holes of the chute.CAUTIONHandle the airbag with extreme care when installing it into the airbag chute. The airbag is configured/folded in a specific manner and will need to be replaced if it is dropped, altered or manipulated in any way.NoteRefer to the following video for proper care when installing the driver side airbag into the airbag chute, and when installing the chute through the seat foam.

With assistance, maneuver the driver
seat back trim and foam assembly downward onto the seat frame to install it onto the
seat assembly.

Install new nuts (x2) that attach the
driver seat side air bag to the seat back frame assembly.CAUTIONDo not use impact tools to torque the nuts.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket

Install the bolt that attaches the
bottom of the lumbar support to the seat assembly.NoteThe bolt is located below the lumbar ECU.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket

Install the clip that attaches the
driver seat side airbag harness to the driver seat seat frame.

Connect the driver seat side air bag
electrical connector, and then secure the safety lock.
-
Carefully secure the LH side of the
driver seat seat cover and foam onto the seat frame.
-
Secure the retainers (x6), and then
secure the trim strap onto the driver seat seat back frame.

Secure the female side of microphone
connector and harness clips (x2) onto seat back suspension.
-
Connect the driver seat microphone,
and then secure harness clip onto the seat back foam.
-
Slide the fan controller electrical
connector downward to install it onto the bracket, and then connect the electrical
connector.

With assistance, align and fully
secure the clips that attach the driver seat back shell to the seat assembly.
- Install the driver headrest trim. See Trim - Headrest - Driver (Remove and Replace).

Position the driver seat assembly onto
the seat back.
NoteProtect the seat from damage.

Secure the clip and bracket that
attach the FSC and FSB vent heat pad harnesses to the seat assembly.
NoteOne harness is for the seat cushion and the other is for the seat back. The upper bracket aids in routing while the lower clip secures them.

Connect the FSB vent heat pad
electrical connector from the seat controller.

Secure the seat back elastic straps
(x2) to the seat frame.
- Position the seat assembly upright.
- Install the driver seat into the vehicle. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Install).
