12mm Radiator (Remove and Replace)
Correction code 183010421.15 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Remove
- Open the LH front door.
- Lower the LH and RH front windows.
- Raise and support vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Turn the steering wheel fully to the right.
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
- Remove the front fascia assembly. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).

Disconnect the active grille shutter actuator connector.
NoteRelease the connector locking tab to disconnect.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Pocket screwdriver

Disconnect the ambient air temperature sensor connector, and then release the grommet that attaches the sensor to the front end carrier.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Plastic trim tool
- Pocket screwdriver

Raise the vehicle partially and lower onto locks.
NoteSet the vehicle to comfortable working height. Make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side.

Release the locking tabs (x12) and clips (x2) that attach the active grille shutter to the cooling fan module, and then remove the active grille shutter from the vehicle.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Pick radiator hose soft grip 10.30in

Place a fluid catcher below the LH front side of the vehicle.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Fluid catcher - 1080568-00-A
-
Release the spring clip that attaches the 12mm radiator hose to the top LH side of the radiator, disconnect the hose, and then allow coolant to drain.
NotePlug the hose and radiator as needed.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Coolant hose plug kit - 1135762-00-A
- Pick radiator hose soft grip 10.30in

Place a fluid catcher below the RH front side of the vehicle.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Fluid catcher - 1080568-00-A

Release the spring clip that attaches the 12mm radiator hose to the top RH side of the radiator, disconnect the hose, and then allow coolant to drain.
NotePlug the hose and radiator as needed.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Coolant hose plug kit - 1135762-00-A
- Pick radiator hose soft grip 10.30in

Release the locking clips (x2) that attach the 12mm radiator to the cooling fan module, and then remove the 12mm radiator from the vehicle.
NoteSlide the 12mm radiator downwards, and then upwards to remove from the vehicle.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Pliers needle nose long
Install

Position the 12mm radiator on the vehicle, and then install the locking clips (x2) that attach the 12mm radiator to the cooling fan module.
NoteEnsure the 12mm radiator aligning guides (x2) and locking tabs are positioned correctly, and then push the 12mm radiator downwards to engage the locking tabs.

Position the 12mm radiator hose on the top RH side of the radiator, and then install the spring clip that attaches the hose to the radiator.
NoteRemove plugs from both ends of each hose. Perform push-pull-push test to make sure the hose is fully seated.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Coolant hose plug kit - 1135762-00-A

Place a fluid catcher below the LH front side of the vehicle.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Fluid catcher - 1080568-00-A

Position the 12mm radiator hose on the top LH side of the radiator, and then install the spring clip that attaches the hose to the radiator.
NoteRemove plugs from both ends of each hose. Perform push-pull-push test to make sure the hose is fully seated.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Coolant hose plug kit - 1135762-00-A

Remove the fluid catcher from under the vehicle.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Fluid catcher - 1080568-00-A

Position the active grille shutter on the cooling fan module, and then install the locking tabs (x12) and clips (x2) that attach the active grille shutter to the cooling fan module.
NoteAlign the shutter datums before engaging the locking tabs. Make sure the shutter slides inside the tab, not outside.

Install the grommet that attaches the ambient air temperature sensor to the front end carrier, and then connect the sensor connector.

Connect the active grille shutter actuator connector.
NoteEngage the connector locking tab.

Remove the coolant bottle cap.

Fill coolant to the proper level.
NoteEnsure the fluid level is filled to the Max line.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flashlight LED
- Inspection mirror, rectangular

Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
NoteRaise lift off locks, and then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered.
- Install the front fascia assembly. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
- Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).

Calibrate the rear doors.
NoteIf the "Calibration Needed" message appears on the vehicle touchscreen, touch and hold Calibrate to calibrate the rear doors.
- Turn the steering wheel back to center position.
- Lower the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.

Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes):

- Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Purge Stop or Coolant Purge Start
- Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Coolant Purge Start
- Drive Inverter ➜ Front Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
- Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
- Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Left Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
- Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Right Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
- Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
- Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
Note- Make sure the vehicle is not in drive state. Putting the vehicle into drive state will stop this routine.
- Routine is still running despite the stop message.
- Coolant pumps will be audible.
- Test lasts approximately 10 minutes.
- Monitor levels as required.

Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.
NoteEnsure the fluid level is filled to the Max line.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flashlight LED
- Inspection mirror, rectangular

Install the coolant bottle cap.
