Remove
- Remove the liftgate cinching actuator from the vehicle. See Actuator - Cinching - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
- Remove a small amount of the butyl patch, release the locking tab and Velcro strap, and then release the liftgate emergency release handle from the liftgate.

Gently remove the liftgate emergency
release handle Velcro patch from the liftgate.
NoteThe Velcro patch will be reused further in the procedure.

Use a plastic trim tool to lift the
emergency release cable, and then carefully remove the cable from the liftgate.
CAUTIONUse caution when releasing the cable.NoteThe cable is snug to the liftgate.
- Disconnect the liftgate latch electrical connector.

Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the
liftgate latch to the liftgate.10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- T30 socket

Remove the liftgate latch from the
liftgate, and then release the liftgate cinch cable from latch arm.
NoteHandle carefully so as to not cause damage to the emergency release cable.
Install
- Install the liftgate cinch cable onto the liftgate latch.

Position the liftgate latch onto the
liftgate, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the liftgate latch to the
liftgate.10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)TIpUse of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- T30 socket

Install the liftgate emergency release
onto the mounting point on the liftgate.
NotePush down firmly on cable to properly seat it into the liftgate mounting point.

Install the Velcro patch over the
emergency release cable mounting hole on the liftgate as shown in image.
NoteEnsure the Velcro is tight to the liftgate and properly centered, as emergency handle will be attached in the next step.

Reapply the small butyl patch, move
the liftgate emergency release handle into position, and then secure the locking tab and
Velcro patch.
NoteMake sure the locking tab is fully securing the release cable.
- Connect the liftgate latch electrical connector.
- Install the liftgate cinching actuator. See Actuator - Cinching - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
