Carrier - Front End (Remove and Replace)

Correction code 10101002 1.26 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. Remove

  1. Remove the front fascia assembly. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
  2. Remove the LH and RH headlights. See Headlight - LH (Remove and Replace).
  3. Disconnect the ambient air temperature sensor connector, and then release the grommet that attaches the sensor to the front end carrier.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Plastic trim tool
    • Pocket screwdriver
  4. Disconnect the active grille shutter actuator connector.

    Note
    Release the connector locking tab to disconnect.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pocket screwdriver
  5. Release the fir tree clips (x2) that attach the front end module harness to the front end carrier, and then remove the harness from the front end carrier.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
  6. Disconnect the LH and RH front bumper crash accelerometer sensor connectors (x2).

    Note
    Do not push down on the red locking tab. Pull the red locking tab, and then release the connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pocket screwdriver
  7. Release the fir tree clips (x2) that attach the front end module harness to the front lower bumper beam.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
  8. Disconnect the front end module harness connectors (x2).

    Release the connector locking tab.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pocket screwdriver
  9. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the latch bracket to the front end carrier.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Remove the bolts (x7) that attach the front end carrier riser to the front end carrier.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  11. With assistance, remove the front end carrier riser from the vehicle.
  12. With assistance, remove the nuts (x8) and bolts (x2) that attach the front bumper beam to the front end carrier, and then remove the beam from the carrier.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • 15 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  13. Use bungee cords to support the active grille shutter and radiator assembly to avoid damage.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Bungee cord
  14. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the cooling fan module to the front end carrier.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  15. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH lamp bracket to the front end carrier, and then release the bracket from the carrier datum.

    Note
    This will allow clearance for front end carrier removal.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  16. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the RH lamp bracket to the front end carrier, and then release the bracket from the carrier datum.

    Note
    This will allow clearance for front end carrier removal.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  17. Disconnect the LH and RH impact sensor connectors (x2).

    Note
    Release the locking tab to disconnect the connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pocket screwdriver
  18. With assistance, remove the front end carrier from the vehicle.

Install

  1. With assistance, position the front end carrier on the vehicle, and then align the carrier with the body studs (x4) for installation.
  2. Connect the LH and RH impact sensor connectors (x2).

    Engage the connector locking tab.
  3. Position the RH lamp bracket on the front end carrier datum, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the bracket to the carrier.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  4. Position the LH lamp bracket on the front end carrier datum, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the bracket to the carrier.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the cooling fan module to the front end carrier.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  6. Remove the bungee cords from the active grille shutter and radiator assembly.
  7. With assistance, install the bolts (x2) that attach the front bumper beam to the front end carrier.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  8. With assistance, install the nuts (x8) that attach the front bumper beam to the front end carrier.
    60 Nm (44.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 15 mm deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  9. With assistance, position the front end carrier riser on the front end carrier, and then install the bolts (x7) that attach the front end carrier riser to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Connect the front end module harness connectors (x2).

    Engage the connector locking tab.
  11. Install the fir tree clips (x2) that attach the front end module harness to the front lower bumper beam.
  12. Connect the LH and RH front bumper crash accelerometer sensor connectors (x2).

  13. Position the front end module harness on the front end carrier, and then install the fir tree clips (x2) that attach the harness to the carrier.
  14. Connect the active grille shutter actuator connector.

  15. Install the grommet that attaches the ambient air temperature sensor to the front end carrier, and then connect the sensor connector.
  16. Install the LH and RH headlights. See Headlight - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the front fascia assembly. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
