Brake Pads and Rotors - Front - Set (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Place absorbent material underneath the brake booster and the brake fluid reservoir area.
  4. Clean the area around brake fluid reservoir, and then remove the brake reservoir cap.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  6. Remove the LH and RH front wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Release the tabs (x2) for each anti-rattle clip (x2), and then remove brake pad anti-rattle clips from the LH front brake caliper.
  8. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front brake caliper to the knuckle, and let the caliper hang from the body with S-hooks.
    135 Nm (99.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  9. Remove the brake pads (x2) from the LH front brake caliper.

  10. Use a caliper spreader kit or similar tool to gently push the pistons back into the LH front brake caliper.
  11. Clean the LH front brake caliper with brake cleaner.

    Use a nylon brush only, if necessary.

    Allow 1 minute dry time.
  12. If installed, remove the bolt that attaches the LH front rotor to the front knuckle.

    Some vehicles may not have this fastener installed from the factory.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  13. Remove the LH front rotor from the hub.
  14. Repeat step 7 through step 13 on the RH side of the vehicle.

Install

  1. Install the LH front rotor to the hub.

    Note
    It is not necessary to install the bolt that attaches the rotor to the hub.
  2. Install the brake pads (x2) to the LH front brake caliper.

  3. Install the brake pad anti-rattle clips (x2) to the LH front brake caliper.

    CAUTION
    Make sure the brake pad clip rests on the brake pad bevel as pictured. Reposition or replace the brake pad clip as needed.

    Note
    2x tabs on each anti-rattle clip.
  4. Install the LH front brake caliper onto the knuckle.
    135 Nm (99.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
  5. Install the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose to the LH front knuckle.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  7. Install the LH and RH front wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Pump the brake pedal repeatedly until firm to seat the brake pads against the rotors.
  9. Check brake fluid level and top off the reservoir, if necessary.

    Note
    If the brake fluid level is above the Max line, remove the extra brake fluid.
  10. Install the brake reservoir cap.
  11. Remove the absorbent material from underneath the brake booster and brake fluid reservoir area.
  12. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  13. Perform a road test and burnish brakes. Ensure proper brake pedal feel and performance.
