Superbeam (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  2. Perform the following sub-steps using Toolbox 3:
    1. Click the Actions tab, and then search for TAS service mode.
    2. Click TAS Enter Service Run ModePROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODECommon/tasks/PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODEChassis, and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete before continuing.

      Click the X at the top right of window to close once completed.
    3. Click the Actions tab, and then search for Deflate.
    4. Click PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATE-RESERVOIR, and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete before continuing.

  3. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.

    Do not close Toolbox 3 because it will be needed to resume later in this procure.
  4. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  5. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  8. Release the clip that attach the supermanifold to the battery pump supply hose from the LV battery.
  9. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the LV battery, and then remove the battery from the vehicle.

  10. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the wiper mount bracket.

    Slide the bracket towards the RH shock tower along the superbeam to clear the HEPA filter housing.
  11. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the remote brake fluid reservoir to the LH FST cap.

    10mm. Torque 8 Nm. 1x datum.

    Rotate the reservoir with the bracket out of the LH FST cap.
  12. Remove the bolts (x3) and clip that attach the LH FST cap to the superbeam.

    13mm. Torque 22 Nm.
  13. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH FST cap to the shock tower, and then remove the cap from the vehicle.

  14. Remove the bolt that attaches the front controller ground cable.

    10mm. Torque 10 Nm.
  15. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the RH FST cap to the superbeam.

    13mm. Torque 22 Nm.
  16. Remove the bolt that attaches the RH FST cap from the shock tower, and then remove the cap from the vehicle.

    Release the keyed ground strap from the RH FST cap after removal.
  17. Release the upper connections (x2) on the front controller.

    Locking connectors (x2). Push in locking tabs and lift levers to release.
  18. Disconnect the LH middle electrical connector on the front controller.

  19. Disconnect the RH middle electrical connectors on the front controller.

    Slide the locking mechanism outwards to release.
  20. Disconnect the lower electrical connectors (x2) on the front controller.

  21. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the front controller to the superbeam.

    10mm. Torque 10 Nm.
  22. Remove the front controller from the vehicle.

    Note
    Locating tabs (x2). Ground cable (x1).
  23. Release the clips (x3) that attach the air suspension line front bundle to the superbeam complete assembly.
  24. Release the clip and bolt that attach the electrical harness to the superbeam.

    10mm or E10 5-lobe socket. Torque 9 Nm.
  25. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the A/C compressor to the superbeam, and then release the compressor bracket from the superbeam.

    Recommend assistance. Support the A/C compressor while removing the fasteners. Carefully remove the A/C compressor and the A/C compressor bracket towards the front of the vehicle and under the superbeam. Be careful around the coolant hose and the supermanifold harness. Place fender cover on fan housing and gently place A/C compressor assembly down.
  26. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the supermanifold to the superbeam, and then slowly rest the superbeam on the front drive unit with help from an assistant.

    Support from underneath, and then rest on rag on top of the heat exchanger.
  27. Remove the schrader valve cap from the air reservoir.
  28. Release residual air from the air reservoir by pressing down on the schrader valve to deflate the reservoir completely.
  29. Remove the nut that attaches the valve block line to the reservoir.

  30. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the superbeam to the vehicle, and then remove the superbeam from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the superbeam to the vehicle.

  2. Install the nut that attaches the valve block line to the reservoir.

    13mm. Torque 5 Nm.
  3. With an assistant, install the bolts (x2) that attach the supermanifold to the superbeam.

    Support from underneath. Hand start bolts to the supermanifold.

    Remove the shop towel from the heat exchanger.
  4. With an assistant, position the A/C compressor bracket assembly into the vehicle, and then hand tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the A/C compressor assembly to the superbeam, and then tighten to specifications.

    Support the A/C compressor while installing the bolts.

    Carefully install the A/C compressor and the A/C compressor bracket towards the rear of the vehicle and under the superbeam. Negotiate the bracket around the coolant hose and the supermanifold electrical harness.
  5. Tighten the A/C compressor bracket bolts (x2) to the superbeam.

  6. Install the bolt and clip that attaches the frunk harness to the superbeam.

    10mm or E10 5-lobe socket. Torque 9 Nm.
  7. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the wiper mount bracket.

    13mm. Torque 25 Nm.

    Slide the bracket from the RH shock tower area along the superbeam to clear the HEPA filter housing.
  8. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the LV battery to the superbeam.

    3x bolts, 10mm, 9 Nm. 2x locators
  9. Install the clip that attaches the supermanifold to battery pump supply hose onto the LV battery.
  10. Install the clips (x3) that attach the air suspension line front bundle to the superbeam assembly.
  11. Install the bolt and clip that attach the frunk harness to the superbeam.

  12. Connect the wiper module electrical connector, and then install the bolts (x3) that attach the wiper module.

    Secure the electrical connector before installation.

    Rotate the wiper module rearward and up into place.
  13. Install the bolt that attaches the LH FST cap to the shock tower.

    13mm. Torque 14 Nm.
  14. Install the bolts (x3) and clip that attach the LH FST cap to the superbeam.

  15. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the remote brake fluid reservoir to the LH FST cap.

    Rotate the reservoir with bracket onto LH FST cap.
  16. Install the bolt that attaches the RH FST cap to the shock tower.

    Insert keyed ground strap into the RH FST cap before installation.
  17. Position the front controller for installation and position ground cable.

  18. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the front controller.

    10mm. Torque 10 Nm.

    Start with the side bolt first.
  19. Install the bolt that attaches the front controller ground cable.

  20. Connect the lower electrical connectors (x2) on the front controller.

    Locking connectors (x2). Engage the red locking tab.
  21. Connect the RH middle electrical connectors (x2) on the front controller.

    Verify that the yellow locking tabs are fully opened. Seat connectors and mechanism will begin to engage.
  22. Connect the LH middle connector for the front controller.

    Verify that the lever is fully opened. Seat connector and lever will being to engage.
  23. Connect the upper connectors (x2) for the front controller.

    Verify that the levers are fully opened. Seat connectors and levers will begin to engage.
  24. Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  25. Remove the schrader valve cap from the air reservoir.
  26. Set up the nitrogen tank kit to fill the reservoir.

    Verify that the valves are set to the closed position on the tank, regulator, and the air line.
  27. Connect the nitrogen tank hose to the reservoir.

    Early production VINs have A/C valves fittings and need an adapter for schrader fill type ports.
  28. Open the valve on the nitrogen tank and set the pressure using the regulator.

    Slowly open valve and adjust regulator. Verify pressure is set to 18 Bar.
  29. Open the valve on the nitrogen tank hose.
  30. Verify that the pressure holds on the regulator valve gauge at 18 Bar.

    If the pressure does not hold, there may be a leak present.
  31. Close the valve on the nitrogen tank hose.
  32. Close the valve on the nitrogen tank.
  33. Close the pressure regulator valve on the nitrogen tank to release the line pressure in the lines.
  34. Remove the nitrogen tank hose from the reservoir.
  35. Install the cap onto reservoir valve.
  36. Reconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  37. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  38. Reconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 again to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  39. Perform the following sub-steps using Toolbox 3:
    1. Click the Actions tab, and then search for ‘TAS service mode’.
    2. Click TAS Enter Normal Run ModePROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODECommon/tasks/PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODEChassis , and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete before continuing.

  40. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  41. On the vehicle touchscreen, set the air suspension from "Jack Mode" to "Standard".
