Side Airbag - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace)

Correction code 20012302 1.80 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. Remove

  1. Open all four doors.
  2. Lower the LH and RH front windows.
  3. Open the liftgate.
  4. Move the LH and RH front seats forward.
  5. Fold the 2nd row 40 and 60 seats downward.
  6. Remove the LH and RH rear sill panel trims. See Trim - Sill Panel - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Apply masking tape to the LH and RH racetrack trims to avoid damage.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Masking tape
  8. Remove the rear trunk load floor. See Trunk Load Floor - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the front trunk load floor. See Trunk Load Floor - Front (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the trunk gap hider. See Gap Hider - Trunk (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the LH and RH side rear trunk garnishes. See Garnish - Rear Trunk - Side - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the LH and RH mid C-pillar trims. See Trim - C-Pillar - Mid - LH (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove the LH and RH trunk load floor bracket covers. See Cover - Bracket - Trunk Load Floor - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Remove the LH and RH lower C-pillar trims. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove the 2nd row mid floor panel. See Floor Panel - Mid - 2nd Row (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  16. Starting from the front, lift the trunk carpet over the harpoon brackets, and then fold the carpet rearwards.

    Note
    Fold the carpet rearwards enough to access the rear seat components.
  17. Remove the 2nd row rear floor panel. See Floor Panel - Rear - 2nd Row (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the LH 2nd row rear floor supports. See Floor Supports - Rear - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Remove the LH 2nd row seat assembly. See Seat Assembly - 2nd Row - LH (7 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  20. Unfold the LH 2nd row seat assembly.
  21. Remove the center 2nd row buckle. See Buckle - 2nd Row - Center (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  22. Remove the LH 2nd row recliner lever. See Lever - Recliner - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  23. Remove the LH 2nd row recliner cover. See Cover - Recliner - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  24. Remove the LH 2nd row seat cushion sub-assembly. See Cushion Sub-assembly - 2nd Row Seat - LH (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  25. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the center 2nd row seatbelt to the seat frame.

    Note
    Route the seatbelt around the center belt restraint.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Torx T50 socket
  26. Fold the LH 2nd row seat assembly.
  27. Unzip the LH 2nd row seat back upholstery on both sides.

    Note
    Ends of the zippers are tucked underneath the upholstery. Use a pick to aid in moving the zipper.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  28. Release the clips (x4) that attach the LH 2nd row seat back tether cup bezel to the seat, and then remove the bezel from the seat.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Plastic trim tool
  29. Release the J-hook that attaches the LH 2nd row seat back upholstery to the seat, and then fold the upholstery over the seat.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  30. Release the clips (x13) that attach the LH 2nd row seat plastic seat back to the seat, and then remove the plastic seat back from the seat.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool 20in
  31. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH 2nd row seat torsion spring bearing cap to the seat, and then remove the cap from the seat.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  32. Carefully release the LH 2nd row seat lower rear trim sub-assembly.

    Note
    Pull down to release the trim sub-assembly from the seat frame.
  33. Unfold the LH 2nd row seat assembly.
  34. Disconnect the LH 2nd row seat heater connectors (x2), and then disconnect the seat side airbag connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  35. Remove and discard the nuts (x2) that attach the LH 2nd row seat side airbag to the seat frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratcheting combination wrench, flex head, 13mm
  36. Release the lower part of the LH 2nd row seat back cushion.
  37. Remove the LH 2nd row seatbelt escutcheon. See Escutcheon - Seatbelt - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  38. Remove the center 2nd row seatbelt escutcheon. See Escutcheon - Seatbelt - 2nd Row - Center (Remove and Replace).
  39. Remove the LH 2nd row seat seat back sub-assembly. See Seat Back Sub-Assembly - 2nd Row Seat - LH (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  40. Release the LH 2nd row side airbag mountings studs that attach the airbag to the seat, and then remove the airbag from the seat.

Install

  1. Position the LH 2nd row side airbag on the seat, and then install the mounting studs that attach the airbag to the seat.
  2. Install the LH 2nd row seat seat back sub-assembly. See Seat Back Sub-Assembly - 2nd Row Seat - LH (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  3. Install the center 2nd row seatbelt escutcheon. See Escutcheon - Seatbelt - 2nd Row - Center (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the LH 2nd row seatbelt escutcheon. See Escutcheon - Seatbelt - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the lower part of the LH 2nd row seat back cushion.
  6. Install the new nuts (x2) that attach the LH 2nd row seat side airbag to the seat frame.
    20 Nm (14.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Ratcheting combination wrench, flex head, 13mm
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  7. Connect the LH 2nd row seat side airbag connector, and then connect the seat heater connectors (x2).
  8. Fold the LH 2nd row seat assembly.
  9. Carefully install the LH 2nd row seat lower rear trim sub-assembly on the seat frame.
  10. Position the LH 2nd row seat torsion spring bearing cap on the seat, and then install the bolt that attaches the cap to the seat.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Fold the seat backrest trim through the cap bracket, and then slide the cap on the bracket to secure the trim.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  11. Position the LH 2nd row seat plastic seat back on the seat, and then install the clips (x13) that attach the seat back to the seat.
  12. Position the LH 2nd row seat back upholstery on the seat, and then install the J-hook that attaches the upholstery to the seat.
  13. Position the LH 2nd row seat back tether cup bezel on the seat, and then install the clips (x4) that attach the bezel to the seat.
  14. Zip the LH 2nd row seat back upholstery on both sides.

    CAUTION
    Use caution to not pull the zippers off the track.

    Note
    Use a pick to aid in moving the zipper. Tuck the ends of the zippers underneath the upholstery.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  15. Unfold the LH 2nd row seat assembly.
  16. Install a new bolt that attaches the center 2nd row seatbelt to the seat frame.
    45 Nm (33.2 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Route the seatbelt around the center belt restraint.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Torx T50 socket
  17. Install the LH 2nd row seat cushion sub-assembly. See Cushion Sub-assembly - 2nd Row Seat - LH (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  18. Install the LH 2nd row recliner cover. See Cover - Recliner - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Install the LH 2nd row recliner lever. See Lever - Recliner - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the center 2nd row buckle. See Buckle - 2nd Row - Center (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  21. Fold the LH 2nd row seat assembly.
  22. Install the LH 2nd row seat assembly. See Seat Assembly - 2nd Row - LH (7 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  23. Install the LH 2nd row rear floor supports. See Floor Supports - Rear - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the 2nd row rear floor panel. See Floor Panel - Rear - 2nd Row (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  25. Fold the trunk carpet into original position.

    Fold the carpet down over the harpoon brackets.
  26. Install the 2nd row mid floor panel. See Floor Panel - Mid - 2nd Row (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  27. Install the LH and RH lower C-pillar trims. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  28. Install the LH and RH rear sill panel trims. See Trim - Sill Panel - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  29. Install the LH and RH mid C-pillar trims. See Trim - C-Pillar - Mid - LH (Remove and Replace).
  30. Install the LH and RH side rear trunk garnishes. See Garnish - Rear Trunk - Side - LH (Remove and Replace).
  31. Install the trunk gap hider. See Gap Hider - Trunk (5 Seat) (Remove and Replace).
  32. Install the LH and RH trunk load floor bracket covers. See Cover - Bracket - Trunk Load Floor - LH (Remove and Replace).
  33. Install the front trunk load floor. See Trunk Load Floor - Front (Remove and Replace).
  34. Install the rear trunk load floor. See Trunk Load Floor - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  35. Close the liftgate.
  36. Remove the masking tape from the LH and RH racetrack trims.
  37. Unfold the 2nd row 40 and 60 seats.
  38. Move the LH and RH front seats to original position.
  39. Calibrate the rear doors.

    Note
    If the "Calibration Needed" message appears on the vehicle touchscreen, touch and hold Calibrate to calibrate the rear doors.
  40. Enable service mode. See Service Mode (Enable and Disable).
  41. Perform a software reinstall. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  42. Exit service mode. See Service Mode (Enable and Disable).
  43. Raise the LH and RH front windows.
  44. Close the LH and RH front doors.
