Seat Assembly - 1st Row - RH (Remove and Replace)

Note
The front seats contain airbags and pretensioners and therefore must be disposed of properly. See Remove the Front Seat Airbag and Discard for more information. Add Correction Code 20010707 to document the labor; the labor time for destructively removing and disposing of the front seat airbag and pretensioner is not reflected in the front seat removal and replacement labor time.

Remove

  1. Open the RH doors and lower the RH windows.
  2. Move the RH 1st row seat forward.
  3. Use a flathead screwdriver to rotate the lock mechanism on the front seat belt linkage counterclockwise to release it from the pretensioner, and then slide the linkage off the pretensioner and set it aside.

    DO NOT rotate clockwise to avoid damage to the mechanism.

    The lock screw will remain in the horizontal position when released.

  4. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the rear of the 1st row RH seat tracks to the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx Plus T45 socket
  5. Move the RH 1st row seat rearward.
  6. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the front of the 1st row RH seat tracks to the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx Plus T45 socket
  7. Move the 1st row RH seat to the middle of the track and the seat back to the most upright position.
  8. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  9. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  10. Position the RH 1st row seat to gain access to the underside of the seat.
  11. Release the red locking tab on the black connector, disconnect the RH side body harness electrical connectors (x2) from the seat controller, and then release the clip that attaches the harness to the seat assembly.
  12. With assistance, remove the 1st row RH seat from the vehicle.

    Use caution to not damage other components.

Install

  1. With assistance, position the 1st row RH seat into the vehicle.

    Take care not to damage surrounding components while lifting the seat into the vehicle.
  2. With assistance, position the 1st row RH seat to gain access to the underside of the seat.
  3. Fasten the clip that attaches the RH side body harness to the 1st row RH seat assembly, connect the harness electrical connectors (x2), and then engage the red locking tab on the black connector.
  4. With assistance, move the 1st row RH seat to the upright position.
  5. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  7. Move the RH 1st row seat forward.
  8. Install new bolts (x2) that attach the rear of the 1st row RH seat seat tracks to the vehicle.
    34 Nm (25.1 lbs-ft)

  9. Install the front seat belt linkage to the pretensioner:
    1. Make sure the lock screw is in the horizontal position. If the lock screw is not in the horizontal position, follow the release instructions to unlock it.
    2. Verify there are no twists in the seat belt from the upper B-pillar trim to the pretensioner.
    3. Install the linkage onto the pretensioner cable.

      The lock screw will rotate back to the locked position.
    4. Perform a firm pull test on the seat belt with at least 15 pounds of force.
  10. Close the RH rear door and raise the RH rear window.
  11. Move the 1st row RH seat rearward.
  12. Install new bolts (x2) that attach the front of the 1st row RH seat tracks to the vehicle.
    34 Nm (25.1 lbs-ft)

  13. Move the 1st row RH seat to the middle of the track.
  14. Inspect the 1st row RH seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) module revision number, and then choose from the following:
    • If the OCS module revision number is A-C, redeploy the vehicle firmware using Toolbox 3. See Firmware Reinstall - Toolbox, and then go to 22.
    • If the OCS module revision number is D, continue to the next step.
  15. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  16. Replacement front seat assemblies and seat cushion frame assemblies procured after June 2024 are equipped with a newly-designed Tesla "mini-tilt" motor, and replacing these parts (or the tilt motor itself) might require a configuration change. Review the configuration information in the table and perform the following substeps if a configuration update is needed.
    1. Access the Vehicle Configuration section of the Infotainment Dashboard. See Gateway Configuration (Display and Change).
    2. Update cfg_frontSeattype according to the combination of tilt motors described in the table.
  17. In Toolbox, click the Actions/Autodiag tab, and then search for ‘Calibration’.
  18. Click PROC_VCSEATP_SEAT-CALIBRATEvia Toolbox: (link), and then click Run and allow the routine to complete.

    Verify that there are no items on the 1st row RH seat during this routine.

    Select the "X" at the top right of window to close once complete.
  19. Use the vehicle touchscreen to calibrate the LH and RH rear doors.
  20. Disconnect Toolbox 3 and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
  21. Raise the RH windows and close the RH doors.
