Back Rest - Driver (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the driver seat from the vehicle. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Install).
  2. Remove the screw that attaches the driver seat outboard side shield to the seat assembly.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  3. Carefully release the clips (x7) that attach the driver seat outboard side shield to the seat assembly, but do not fully remove the side shield from the seat assembly.
  4. Disconnect the electrical harness from the seat switch.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  5. Remove the inboard side shield. See Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  6. Release the seat back elastic straps (x2) from the driver seat frame.
  7. Release the soft trim retainers (x2) from the driver seat frame.
  8. Disconnect the FSC vent heat pad electrical connector from the driver seat controller.
  9. Use a plastic trim tool to release the clip and bracket that attach the FSC and FSB vent heat pad harnesses to the driver seat assembly, and then remove the harnesses from the assembly.

    Note
    One harness is for the seat cushion and the other is for the seat back. The upper bracket aids in routing while the lower clip secures them.
  10. Use a clip tool to release the clip that attaches the driver seat harness to the seat frame bracket.
  11. Slide the OCS harness connector upward to release it from the SBR bracket, and then disconnect the electrical connector.

  12. Slide the SBR bracket upward to release it from the driver seat frame.
  13. Release the tabs (x2) to open the SBR bracket containing OCS harness, and then route the harness between the driver cushion and frame.

    Note
    Routing the harness will avoid it getting snagged when the seat foam is removed from the seat frame.
  14. Release the soft trim retainer from the inboard side of the driver seat frame.

  15. Release the soft trim retainer from the outboard side of the driver seat frame.

  16. Release the soft trim retainer from the front end of the driver seat frame.

  17. Position the seat assembly upright.
  18. Remove the driver seat seat cushion from the seat frame.
  19. Remove the headrest trim. See Trim - Headrest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  20. Remove the seat back shell. See Shell - Seat Back - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  21. Disconnect the fan controller electrical connector from the seat harness.
  22. Disconnect the driver seat microphone electrical connector, and then release the clip that attaches the harness to the driver seat back rest foam.
  23. Release the female side of microphone connector and harness clip from seat back suspension
  24. Release the trim strap, and then release the trim retainers (x6) that attach the seat back trim retainers to the seat back frame.
  25. Carefully separate the driver seat cover from the driver seat, and then set the cover aside for access.
  26. Use a clip tool to release the clip that attaches the driver seat side airbag harness to the driver seat seat frame.
  27. Push down on the tab to release the driver seat side air bag electrical connector, and then disconnect the connector.
  28. Disconnect the driver back rest pitch motor electrical connector.
  29. Use a clip tool to release the clips (x2) that attach the harness to the driver seat seat back suspension.
  30. Disconnect the driver seat lumbar valve pack assembly electrical connector.
  31. Use a clip tool to release the clip that attaches the inboard airbag harness to the driver seat seat frame.
  32. Disconnect the driver seat lumbar pump electrical connector.
  33. Remove the driver seat buckle. See Back Rest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  34. Remove the front seat side shield LH and RH carrier from the driver seat. See Carrier - RH - Side Shield - Inboard - Front Seat (Remove and Replace).
  35. Release the safety lock, then disconnect the LH lap pretensioner electrical connector.
  36. With assistance, remove and discard the bolts (x4) that attach the driver seat back rest assembly to the seat cushion frame.

Install

  1. With assistance, install the bolts (x4) that attach the driver seat back rest assembly to the seat cushion frame.
    43 Nm (31.7 lbs-ft)

    • Torx T47 socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  2. Install the front seat side shield LH and RH carrier from the driver seat. See Carrier - RH - Side Shield - Inboard - Front Seat (Remove and Replace).
  3. Connect the LH lap pretensioner electrical connector and secure the safety lock.
  4. Install the driver seat buckle. See Back Rest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  5. Connect the driver seat lumbar pump electrical connector.
  6. Fasten the clip that attaches the inboard airbag harness to the driver seat seat frame.
  7. Connect the driver seat lumbar valve pack assembly electrical connector.
  8. Fasten the clips (x2) that attach the harness to the driver seat seat back suspension.
  9. Connect the driver back rest pitch motor electrical connector.
  10. Fasten the clip that attaches the driver seat side airbag harness to the driver seat seat frame.
  11. Connect the driver seat side air bag electrical connector.
  12. Install the driver seat cover to the driver seat.
  13. Install the trim retainers (x6) that attach the seat back trim retainers to the seat back frame, then install the trim strap.
  14. Install the female side of microphone connector and harness clip from seat back suspension
  15. Connect the driver seat microphone electrical connector, and then install the clip that attaches the harness to the driver seat back rest foam.
  16. Connect the fan controller electrical connector from the seat harness.
  17. Install the seat back shell. See Shell - Seat Back - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  18. Install the headrest trim. See Trim - Headrest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  19. Position the driver seat cushion assembly onto the seat assembly, and then feed the cushion trim between the seat back trim and seat frame to install cushion assembly to the seat frame.
  20. Position the driver seat assembly onto the seat back.

    Note
    Protect the seat from damage.
  21. Secure the soft trim retainer onto the front end of seat frame.
  22. Secure the soft trim retainer on the outboard side of the seat frame.
  23. Secure the soft trim retainer on the inboard side of the seat frame.
  24. Install the OCS harness into the SBR bracket, and then secure the tabs (x2).

    Note
    Verify the tabs are fully engaged.
  25. Slide the SBR bracket downward to install it onto the seat frame bracket.
  26. Connect the OCS harness electrical connector, and then install the connector onto the SBR bracket.
  27. Fasten the clip that attaches the driver seat harness to the seat frame bracket.
  28. Secure the clip and bracket that attach the FSC and FSB vent heat pad harnesses to the seat assembly.

    Note
    One harness is for the seat cushion and the other is for the seat back. The upper bracket aids in routing while the lower clip secures them.
  29. Connect the FSC vent heat pad electrical connector to the driver seat controller.
  30. Install the soft trim retainers (x2) to the seat frame.
  31. Secure the seat back elastic straps (x2) to the seat frame.
  32. Connect the electrical harness to the back rest and cushion adjust switch assembly, and then verify the functions of the seat switches.
  33. Position the driver seat outboard side shield onto the seat, and then install the clips (x7) that attach the side shield to the seat.

    Apply pressure to the side shield to fully seat the clips. The side shield should sit flush against the seat cushion.
  34. Install the screw that attaches the driver seat outboard side shield to the seat assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)

  35. Install the driver seat from the vehicle. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Install).
