Hose - Return - Powertrain (Remove and Replace)

Correction code 18303102 0.70 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Remove

  1. Open the LH front door.
  2. Open the LH front window.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  4. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  5. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Remove the LH front and rear wheels. See Wheel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Partially release the clips (x4) that attach the rear edge of the LH front fender garnish to the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Plastic trim tool
  8. Remove the LH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Position a coolant drain container underneath the powertrain return hose connection.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Coolant drain container
  10. Release the spring clip that attaches the power control system to rear hose to the powertrain return hose, remove the anti-rattle foam pieces (x2) from the vehicle, and then install coolant plugs on the hoses.

    Note
    Use a shop towel to clean any residue coolant inside the LH front rocker panel as necessary. Place anti-rattle foam pieces aside.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
    • Coolant hose plug kit - 1135762-00-A
    • Pick radiator hose soft grip 10.30in
  11. Position a fluid catcher underneath the LH rear side of the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Fluid catcher - 1080568-00-A
  12. Partially release the clips (x4) that attach the LH rear wheel arch liner to the vehicle.

    Note
    Move the liner aside as needed for access.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
  13. Release the spring clip that attaches the powertrain supply coolant hose to the powertrain return hose, remove the powertrain supply coolant hose from the powertrain return hose, and then install coolant plugs on the hoses.

    Note
    Use a shop towel to clean any residue coolant inside the LH rear rocker panel as necessary.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
    • Coolant hose plug kit - 1135762-00-A
    • Pick radiator hose soft grip 10.30in
  14. Release the clip that attaches the powertrain return hose to the vehicle, remove the anti-rattle foam pieces (x2) from the vehicle, and then remove the hose from the vehicle.

    Note
    Clear the rear rotor and continue pulling the hose gently to remove. Place anti-rattle foam pieces aside.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in

Install

  1. Position the powertrain return hose on the vehicle, install the clip that attaches the hose to the vehicle, and then install the anti-rattle foam pieces (x2) on the vehicle.

    CAUTION
    Do not over push the hose during installation. Gently slide the hose into the vehicle to avoid damage.
  2. Install the spring clip that attaches the powertrain supply coolant hose to the powertrain return hose.

    Note
    Remove any plugs prior to installation. Perform push-pull-push test to make sure the hose is fully seated. Use a shop towel to clean any coolant residue if necessary.
  3. Install the clips (x4) that attach the LH rear wheel arch liner to the vehicle.
  4. Position a coolant drain container underneath the powertrain return hose connection.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Coolant drain container
  5. Install the spring clip that attaches the power control system to rear hose to the powertrain return hose, and then install the anti-rattle foam pieces (x2) on the vehicle.

    Note
    Remove any plugs prior to installation. Perform push-pull-push test to make sure the hose is fully seated. Use a shop towel to clean any coolant residue if necessary.
  6. Remove coolant drain container from underneath the vehicle.
  7. Install the LH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Spray the area with brake cleaner, and then wipe residual fluid off with a towel.
  9. Install the clips (x4) that attach the rear edge of the LH front fender garnish to the vehicle.
  10. Install the LH front and rear wheels. See Wheel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the coolant bottle cap.
  12. Fill coolant to the proper level.

    Note
    Ensure the fluid level is filled to the Max line.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flashlight LED
    • Inspection mirror, rectangular
  13. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  14. Enable service mode. See Service Mode (Enable and Disable).
  15. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): TEST_VCFRONT_X_THERMAL-COOLANT-AIR-PURGEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Purge Stop or Coolant Purge Start
    • Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Coolant Purge Start
    via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Front Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Left Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Right Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge

    Note
    • Coolant pumps will be audible.
    • Make sure the vehicle is not in drive state. Putting the vehicle into drive state will stop this routine.
    • Monitor levels as required.
    • Select "X" at top right of window to close once complete.
    • Test lasts approximately 10 minutes.
  16. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.

  17. Install the coolant bottle cap.
  18. Remove any residual coolant.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Blow gun
  19. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  20. Disable service mode. See Service Mode (Enable and Disable).
  21. Lower the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  22. Calibrate the rear doors.

    Note
    If the "Calibration Needed" message appears on the vehicle touchscreen, touch and hold Calibrate to calibrate the rear doors.
  23. Raise the LH front window.
  24. Close the LH front door.
