Back Rest - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH and RH front doors.
  2. Lower the LH and RH front windows.
  3. Remove the front passenger seat. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - RH (Remove and Install).
  4. With assistance, place the front passenger seat on a protected surface.

    Note
    Place seat so the underside of the seat can be accessed.
  5. Remove the front passenger seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the front passenger seat inboard side shield. See Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  7. Release the seat back cover elastic straps (x2) from seat frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  8. Disconnect the FSB vent heat pad connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pocket screwdriver
  9. Release the clip and bracket that attaches the FSC and FSB vent heat pad harnesses to the seat.

    Note
    One harness is for the seat cushion, and the other is for the seat back. The upper bracket aids in routing, while the lower clip secures the harnesses.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Plastic trim tool
  10. Position the front passenger seat in the upright position.
  11. Remove the front passenger headrest trim. See Trim - Headrest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  12. With assistance, release the clips (x6) that attach the seat back cover to the front passenger seat, and then remove the cover from the seat.

    Note
    Start at the top of the seat, and then pull the cover away from the frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Inflatable airbag
    • Plastic trim tool
  13. Disconnect the front passenger seat fan controller connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  14. Release the clip that attaches the front passenger seat microphone to the seat, disconnect the harness connector, and then release harness from the seat back foam.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pocket screwdriver
  15. Release the clip that attaches the front passenger seat harness to the seat back suspension, and then disconnect the harness connector.

    Note
    Slide the connector away from the securing tab to release.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
    • Pocket screwdriver
  16. Release the front passenger seat trim strap and back soft trim retainers (x6) from the seat back frame.

    Note
    Release the trim strap first, and then release the retainers from the seat back frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  17. Release the tab that attaches the LH side of the front passenger seat back trim assembly to the seat, and then move the trim aside for access.
  18. Release the tab that attaches the RH side of the front passenger seat back trim assembly to the seat, and then move the trim aside for access.
  19. Disconnect the front passenger inboard side airbag connector.

    Note
    Push down on the tab to release the connector from the airbag.
  20. Release the clip that attaches the front passenger seat harness to the RH side of the seat back frame assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
  21. Disconnect the front passenger seat backrest pitch motor connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Small flat head screwdriver
  22. Release the clips (x2) that attach the front passenger seat back suspension harness to the seat.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
  23. Disconnect the front passenger seat lumbar valve pack assembly connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Small flat head screwdriver
  24. Disconnect the front passenger seat lumbar pump connector.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Small flat head screwdriver
  25. Release the clip that attaches the far side airbag harness to the front passenger seat frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Clip pry tool
  26. Remove the RH 1st row buckle. See Buckle - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  27. Remove the front passenger seat inboard side shield LH carrier. See Carrier - LH - Side Shield - Outboard - Front Seat (Remove and Replace).
  28. Disconnect the front passenger seat lap pretensioner connector.

    Note
    Release the connector safety lock to disconnect.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  29. Remove the front passenger seat outboard side shield RH carrier. See Carrier - RH - Side Shield - Inboard - Front Seat (Remove and Replace).
  30. With assistance, remove and discard the bolts (x4) that attach the front passenger back rest to the seat frame, and then remove the back rest from the seat.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Internal Torx T47 Plus socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench

Install

  1. With assistance, position the front passenger back rest on the seat frame, and then install the bolts (x4) that attach the back rest to the seat frame.
    43 Nm (31.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Internal Torx T47 Plus socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  2. Install the front passenger seat outboard side shield RH carrier. See Carrier - RH - Side Shield - Inboard - Front Seat (Remove and Replace).
  3. Connect the front passenger seat lap pretensioner connector.

    Note
    Secure the connector safety lock.
  4. Install the front passenger seat inboard side shield LH carrier. See Carrier - LH - Side Shield - Outboard - Front Seat (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the RH 1st row buckle. See Buckle - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the clip that attaches the far side airbag harness to the front passenger seat frame.
  7. Connect the front passenger seat lumbar pump connector.
  8. Install the clips (x2) that attach the front passenger seat back suspension harness to the seat.
  9. Connect the front passenger seat lumbar valve pack assembly connector.
  10. Connect the front passenger seat backrest pitch motor connector.
  11. Install the clip that attaches the front passenger seat harness to the RH side of the seat back frame assembly.
  12. Connect the front passenger inboard side airbag connector.

    Note
    Secure the connector safety lock.
  13. Install the tab that attaches the RH side of the front passenger seat back trim assembly to the seat.

    Carefully pull the seat cover around the RH front seat and side for reinstallation.
  14. Install the tab that attaches the LH side of the front passenger seat back trim assembly to the seat.

    Carefully pull the seat cover around the LH front seat and side for reinstallation.
  15. Install the back soft trim retainers (x6) and seat trim strap on the front passenger seat back frame.

    Install the retainers on the seat back frame first, and then install the trim strap.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pick Miniature Soft Grip, 90 degree tip, 6 in
  16. Connect the front passenger seat harness connector, and then install the clip that attaches the seat harness to the seat back suspension.

    Slide the connector on the securing tab.
  17. Connect the front passenger seat microphone harness connector, and then install the clip that attaches the harness to the seat back foam.
  18. Connect the front passenger seat fan controller connector.

    Slide the connector downward to install on the bracket.
  19. With assistance, install the clips (x6) that attach the seat back cover to the passenger seat.

    Align and fully secure the seat back cover on the seat frame assembly.
  20. Install the passenger headrest trim. See Trim - Headrest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  21. With assistance, place the front passenger seat on a protected surface.

    Place seat so the underside of the seat can be accessed.
  22. Install the clip and bracket that attaches the FSC and FSB vent heat pad harnesses to the front passenger seat.

  23. Connect the FSB vent heat pad connector.
  24. Install the seat back elastic straps (x2) on the front passenger seat.
  25. Position the front passenger seat upright.
  26. Install the front passenger seat inboard side shield. See Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  27. Install the front passenger seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  28. Install the front passenger seat. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - RH (Remove and Install).
  29. Raise the LH and RH front windows.
  30. Close the LH and RH front doors.
