Cross Car Beam (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open all four doors.
  2. Lower the LH and RH front windows.
  3. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove the RH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - RH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the upper steering column bracket instrument panel carrier to the bulkhead.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  9. Remove the center console assembly. See Center Console Assembly - 1st Row (Remove and Install).
  10. Adjust the steering column fully rearward and fully down.
  11. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  12. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel end caps. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove the LH and RH middle A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  14. Remove the LH instrument panel LH middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove the driver knee airbag. However, do not remove the components from the knee airbag assembly after the assembly has been removed from the instrument panel. See Knee Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the LH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the RH front door sill trim panel. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Remove the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  20. Fold the RH front cabin carpet aside for access.
  21. Release the clip that attaches the electrical harness to the RH footrest panel.
  22. Remove the bolts (x2) and nuts (x2) that attach the RH footrest panel to the body.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  23. Remove the RH footrest panel from the vehicle.

    Note
    Fold the RH primary support carpet up, and then rotate the footrest panel out of the vehicle.
  24. Remove the RH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  25. Remove the RH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  26. Remove the instrument panel service panel from the center console as an assembly. However, do not remove the cabin temperature sensor fan from the service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  27. Remove the touchscreen. See Touchscreen - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  28. Release the tabs (x4) that attach the instrument panel closeout panel to the instrument panel, and then remove the closeout panel from the instrument panel.
  29. Remove the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  30. Remove the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  31. Remove the front passenger knee airbag as an assembly. However, do not remove the components from the knee airbag assembly after the assembly has been removed from the instrument panel. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  32. Remove the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  33. Remove the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  34. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel carrier cross beam.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  35. Disconnect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).

    Note
    Pull down the spring loaded locks simultaneously to release the airbag electrical connectors.
  36. Remove the RH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  37. Remove the center lower instrument panel screws (x6).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  38. Remove the LH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  39. Release the instrument cluster electrical harness clip, and then disconnect the electrical connector.
  40. Release the instrument panel trim electrical harness, and then disconnect the electrical connector.
  41. Position the lower instrument panel assembly away from the instrument panel sub-assembly.

    Note
    Move the top edge as far rearward as possible without excessive stress on the assembly.
  42. Release the instrument panel ground harness clip, and then remove the ground harness bolt.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

    Take note of the harness routing behind the RH touchscreen bracket.
  43. With an assistant, remove the instrument panel sub-assembly.

    Slide the instrument panel sub-assembly rearward, and then lift the assembly up from the instrument panel carrier.

    Make sure the airwave vents and front passenger airbag are clear of lower instrument panel assembly.

    Remove the instrument panel sub-assembly out through the RH front door.
  44. Remove the driver instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  45. Remove the driver outboard jumper duct. See Duct - Jumper - Outboard - Driver (Remove and Replace.
  46. Remove the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  47. Remove the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  48. Remove the steering column upper shroud. See Shroud - Upper - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  49. Remove the steering column lower shroud. See Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  50. Remove the lower instrument panel. See Instrument Panel - Lower (Remove and Replace).
  51. Release the clips (x4) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness at the LH and RH touchscreen brackets.
  52. Release the clips (x2) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness to the center of the instrument panel carrier.

    Note
    Once the clips are released, maneuver the instrument panel electrical harness behind both touchscreen brackets into the front passenger side footwell.
  53. Release the clips (x4) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness to the RH side of the instrument panel carrier.
  54. Release the clips (x3) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness to the J12 x055 dash connector at the RH body controller, and then disconnect the electrical connector.

    Release the lock, and then remove.
  55. Disconnect the instrument panel electrical harness connector X873 at the top RH side of the car computer gaming board.

    Release the lock on the electrical connector before removal.
  56. Disconnect the car computer electrical connector.

    CAUTION
    Press the lock on the underside of the electrical connector before pulling out of the socket. Possible damage to the PCBA may occur if removed without releasing lock first.
  57. Disconnect the instrument panel electrical harness connectors at the LH side of the car computer (x5).

    Note
    Release the locks on the electrical connectors before removal.
  58. Release the clips (x5) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness to the lower center of the instrument panel carrier.
  59. Release the clips (x3) that attach the glove box USB cable to the instrument panel carrier.
  60. Release the clips (x3) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness at the upper center of the instrument panel carrier.
  61. Release the clips (x3) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness to the LH center side of the instrument panel carrier.
  62. Disconnect the steering column control module electrical connector.

    Remove the retaining clip on the electrical connector, then release the electrical connector, and then remove the remaining broken clip the electrical connector.

  63. Release the clips (x5) that attach the instrument panel electrical harness to J12 x035 dash connector at the LH body controller, and then disconnect the electrical connector.

  64. Disconnect the instrument panel electrical harness connector x947F.

    Release the locking tab before removal.
  65. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel cowl link.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

    Only remove the bolts from the instrument panel carrier and the HVAC assembly.
  66. Remove the instrument panel electrical harness from the vehicle.

    Maneuver the RH side of the harness underneath the instrument panel cowl link, and then maneuver the LH side of the harness up and over the steering column.
  67. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the steering column to the steering column bracket, and then rotate and set aside the steering column.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
  68. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH side of the cross car beam.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  69. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the RH side of the cross car beam.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  70. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the cross car beam to the toeboard bracket.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  71. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  72. Remove the cross car beam from the body and the HVAC assembly.

  73. With an assistant, remove the cross car beam from the vehicle.

  74. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the touchscreen brackets.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

Install

  1. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the touchscreen brackets to the new cross car beam.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  2. With an assistant, install the cross car beam into the vehicle.

    Align the datums before fully engaging with the HVAC assembly.
  3. Engage the cross car beam to the body and the HVAC assembly.

  4. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the LH side of the cross car beam.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  5. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the RH side of the cross car beam.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  6. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the cross car beam to the toeboard bracket.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  7. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  8. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the upper steering column bracket instrument panel carrier at the bulkhead.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  9. Install the nuts (x4) that attach the steering column to the steering column bracket.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
  10. Install the instrument panel harness into the vehicle.

    Maneuver the RH side of the harness underneath the instrument panel cowl link down into passenger footwell, and then maneuver the LH side of the harness up and over the steering column down into the driver footwell.
  11. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel cowl link.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

  12. Fasten the clips (x5) that attach the instrument panel harness to the J12 x035 Dash connector at the LH body controller, and then connect the electrical connector.
  13. Connect the instrument panel harness electrical connector x947F.

    Secure the locking tab after installation.
  14. Connect the steering column control module electrical connector.

    Install a new orange retaining clip to electrical connector, and then install the steering column control module connector. Perform a push-pull-push to make sure connector is seated properly.
  15. Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the instrument panel harness to the LH center of the instrument panel carrier.
  16. Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the instrument panel harness at the upper center of the instrument panel carrier.
  17. Fasten the clips (x5) that attach the instrument panel harness to the lower center of the instrument panel carrier.
  18. Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the glove box USB cable to the instrument panel carrier.
  19. Connect the instrument panel harness electrical connectors (x5) at the LH side of the car computer.
  20. Connect the car computer electrical connector.

    Confirm the connector is locked into the socket.
  21. Fasten the clips (x4) that attach the instrument panel harness to the RH side of the instrument panel carrier.
  22. Fasten the clips (x3) that attach the instrument panel harness to J12 x055 Dash connector at the RH body controller, and then connect the electrical connector.
  23. Connect the instrument panel harness connector x873 at the top RH side of the car computer.
  24. Fasten the clips (x2) that attach the instrument panel harness to the center of the instrument panel carrier.

    Maneuver the instrument panel harness behind both touchscreen brackets into position.
  25. Fasten the clips (x4) that attach the instrument panel harness at the LH and RH touchscreen brackets.
  26. Fasten the tabs (x8), and then install the screws (x3) that attach the lower instrument panel.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit

    Secure only the screws located at the bottom of the assembly. The remainder of screws are fastened at a later step.
  27. Install the steering column lower shroud. See Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  28. Install the steering column upper shroud. See Shroud - Upper - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  29. Install the driver outboard jumper duct. See Duct - Jumper - Outboard - Driver (Remove and Replace.
  30. Install the driver instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  31. With an assistant, install the instrument panel sub-assembly.

  32. Install the bolt that attaches the instrument panel ground harness.
    3.5 Nm (2.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

  33. Connect the instrument panel trim harness electrical connector.

  35. Position the lower instrument panel assembly into the instrument panel sub-assembly.
  36. Install the LH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)

    • Torx T20 bit
  37. Install the center lower instrument panel screws (x6).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  38. Install the RH lower instrument panel screws (x3).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 bit
  39. Install the main instrument panel decor. See Decor - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  40. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the instrument panel carrier cross beam.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  41. Connect the front passenger airbag electrical connectors (x3).
  42. Install the front passenger instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  43. Install the RH footrest panel.

    Note
    Rotate the RH footrest panel into the vehicle. Fold the RH primary support carpet down.
  44. Install the bolts (x2) and nuts (x2) that attach the RH footrest panel to the body.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  45. Fasten the electrical harness clip to the RH footrest panel.
  46. Fold the RH main carpet back into place.
  47. Install the glove box. See Glove Box (Remove and Replace).
  48. Install the front passenger knee airbag. See Knee Airbag - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  49. Install the RH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  50. Install the RH front sill. panel trim. See Trim - Sill Panel - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  51. Install the RH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  52. Install the RH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  53. Install the RH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  54. Install the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  55. Install the RH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - RH (Remove and Replace).
  56. Fasten the tabs (x4) that attach the IP closeout panel.
  57. Install the touchscreen. See Touchscreen - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  58. Install the instrument panel service panel. See Service Panel - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  59. Install the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  60. Install the LH sun visor bezel A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Sun Visor Bezel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  61. Install the LH instrument panel middle trim. See Trim - Middle - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  62. Install the driver knee airbag. See Knee Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  63. Install the LH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  64. Install the LH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  65. Install the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  66. Install the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  67. Install the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  68. Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  69. Install the RH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - RH (Remove and Replace).
  70. Install the LH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  71. Reconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  72. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  73. Install the center console assembly. See Center Console Assembly - 1st Row (Remove and Install).
  74. Adjust the steering column back to its original position.
  75. Close the RH front door.
  76. Calibrate the LH and RH rear doors by holding each upper B-pillar button in the down position.
  77. Raise the LH and RH front windows.
  78. Close the LH front door.
