Brake Rotor - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)

Note
If only a single rotor needs replacing (due to damage), the corresponding axle rotor must be measured for runout and thickness. See Brake Rotor - Rear - LH (Measure Runout).

Reuse

Remove

  1. Raise the vehicle and remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  2. Use Toolbox to place the vehicle into EPB Service Mode. See Release Parking Brake Using Toolbox.
  3. Remove and discard the bolts that attach the LH rear caliper to the LH rear knuckle, remove the caliper from the knuckle, and allow the caliper to hang from an S-hook.
    83 Nm (61.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  4. Use the caliper spreader tool to push the caliper piston to the fully open position.

    Note
    This allows for more clearance when new brake pads are installed.
  5. Remove the bolt that attaches the brake rotor to the hub, and then remove the brake rotor from the hub.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Early production vehicles may not be equipped with a bolt that attaches the brake rotor to the hub.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench

Install

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. Replace all patchbolts.

    CAUTION
    Make sure that the brake hose can bend forward and does not make contact with the wheel liner when the vehicle is lowered.
  2. Put the vehicle into Park to exit EPB Service Mode and engage the parking prake.
  3. Press the brake pedal at least 5 times to seat the pads against the rotor.

    Always check that the brake pads are seated correctly before driving the vehicle.
  4. Burnish the brake pads. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
