ECU – Trailer Hitch (Remove and Replace)

Torque Specifications

Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove the rear fascia. See Fascia - Rear (Remove and Install).
  2. Disconnect the trailer hitch jumper harness and body harness electrical connectors from the trailer hitch ECU.
  3. Using a 10 mm deep socket, remove the nut that attaches the trailer hitch ECU to the stud on the trailer hitch assembly.
  4. Remove the trailer hitch ECU from the trailer hitch assembly.

Install

  1. Inspect the base of the stud on the trailer hitch assembly for a beveled shoulder or epoxy washer:
    • If the stud has an epoxy washer or the base of the stud has a shoulder that is greater than 0.8 mm, continue to the next step.
    • If the stud does not have an epoxy washer and the base of the stud has a shoulder that is 0.8 mm or less, place an epoxy washer (1016456-00-B or later) onto the stud before installing the ECU.

    CAUTION
    Installing the ECU onto a stud that does not have a washer or a shoulder that is greater than 0.8 mm may result in damage to the ECU when tightening the nut.
  2. Move the trailer hitch ECU into place so that the stud on the trailer hitch assembly goes through the hole in the ECU. Install the nut that attaches the trailer hitch ECU to the stud on the trailer hitch assembly.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
  3. Connect the trailer hitch jumper harness and body harness electrical connectors to the trailer hitch ECU.
  4. Install the rear fascia. See Fascia - Rear (Remove and Install).
