Ground Strap - Rear Drive Unit (Remove and Replace)

Remove
- Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Remove the rear LH wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the nut that attaches the rear drive unit ground strap to the frame rail, and then remove the ground strap ring terminal from the frame rail.
- Release the clip that attaches the rear drive unit ground strap to the rear subframe.
- Remove the bolt that attaches the rear drive unit ground strap to the rear drive unit, and then remove the ground strap from the vehicle.
Install

Use isopropyl alcohol (IPA)
wipes to clean the surface of the rear subframe and rear drive unit where
the ground strap ring terminals were removed.
NoteAllow the IPA to dry for at least one minute.

Install the ring terminal of
the rear drive unit ground strap to the frame rail, and then hand-tighten
the nut that attaches the rear drive unit ground strap to the frame
rail.
NoteReinstall the washer if the vehicle had this washer during removal.NoteMake sure that the angle of the ground strap provides enough clearance between the ground strap wire and the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness.
- Fasten the clip that attaches the rear drive unit ground strap to the rear subframe.
- Install the ring terminal of the rear drive unit ground strap on the rear drive unit, and then hand-tighten the bolt that attaches the ground strap to the drive unit.

Hold the ring terminal in
position and tighten the bolt at the rear drive unit.

Hold the ring terminal in
position and tighten the nut at the frame rail.NoteMake sure that the collar sits flat against the frame rail and that the orientation of the ground strap doesn’t cause any strain on the strap.

- Install the rear LH wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
