Brightwork - Quarter Panel - LH (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
For Europe only: Only technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.

Remove

  1. Use the exterior switch to open the liftgate.
  2. Remove the LH upper brightwork. See Brightwork - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  3. Use IPA wipes to clean the exterior area of the rear quarter body glass.

    Note
    Allow at least 1 minute of dry time.
  4. Apply masking tape around the rear quarter glass body area.
  5. Using a plastic trim tool, pry out the rear edge of the LH quarter brightwork from the LH rear quarter body glass, and then use a retractable blade to cut the urethane that attaches brightwork to the vehicle.

    Always wear cut-resistant gloves when using cutting tools.

    CAUTION
    Use caution with the clip that attaches the rear quarter brightwork to the LH upper body side brightwork.

Install

  1. Use IPA wipes to clean the urethane path.

    Note
    Allow at least 1 minute of dry time.
  2. Apply Betaprime 5504G to the urethane path on the encapsulated glass and LH quarter panel brightwork.

    Note
    The Betaprime dries in two minutes in temperatures 20˚F (-7˚C) and above, and in just10 minutes between 0˚F (-18˚C) and 20˚F (-7˚C).
  3. Remove the masking tape from the body.
  4. Prepare the caulking gun and urethane.

    Note
    The opening must be ~3.5mm wide and ~1.5mm tall.
  5. Apply urethane to the quarter glass seal following the original path.
  6. Position the LH quarter panel brightwork onto the vehicle, and then press firmly on the trim to make sure it is fully seated.
  7. Use masking tape to secure the brightwork.
  8. Install the LH upper brightwork. See Brightwork - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Close the liftgate.
  10. Remove the tape after curing.

    Allow minimum of one hour of cure time. Wipe off any residue.
