Brake Rotor - Rear - LH (Measure Runout)

  1. Open the LH front door.
  2. Lower the LH front window.
  3. Apply the brake pedal depressor.

    Verify the brake pedal is fully pressed to avoid wheels from spinning.
  4. Connect a laptop with Toolbox to the vehicle.
  5. Release the LH rear parking brake caliper using Toolbox. See Parking Brake - Caliper - Rear - LH (Release).
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  7. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear rotor to the hub.

    10 mm. Torque 5 Nm.

  9. Install the brake rotor run out clamping plate onto the rotor.

    This simulates the wheel being installed, thus preventing inaccurate measurements.

    x5 nuts. 21 mm. Torque 100 Nm.
  10. Lower the vehicle to suitable height, and then remove the brake pedal depressor.
  11. Raise the vehicle partially.

    Set the vehicle to a comfortable working height.
  12. Install the brake rotor run out flex bar onto the rear toe link bolt and setup for reading.
  13. Measure 15 mm inward from the rear rotor end and align digital indicator. Press the indicator rod and zero measurement.

    Make sure the indicator rod is pressed to allow travel in both directions and does not bottom out.
  14. Mark the top center of the rear rotor to identify the starting point.
  15. Slowly rotate the rear rotor 1 full revolution.

    Record the highest positive and lowest negative values as shown on the digital indicator as you complete the rotation.

    The total runout is the difference between the highest positive and lowest negative values and must not exceed 0.050 mm. If the total runout exceeds 0.050 mm, the brake rotor must be replaced due to excessive runout.
  16. Measure 30 mm inward from the rear rotor end and align digital indicator. Press the indicator rod and zero measurement.

  17. Slowly rotate the rear rotor 1 full revolution.

    The total runout is the difference between the highest positive and lowest negative values and must not exceed 0.050 mm. If the total runout exceeds 0.050 mm, the brake rotor must be replaced due to excessive runout.
  18. Measure 45 mm inward from the rear rotor end and align digital indicator. Press the indicator rod and zero measurement.

  19. Slowly rotate the rear rotor 1 full revolution.

  20. Remove the brake rotor run out flex bar from the rear toe link bolt.
  21. Lower vehicle to suitable height and install the brake pedal depressor.
  22. Remove the brake rotor runout clamping plate from the rear rotor.
  23. Install the bolt that attaches the rear rotor to the hub.

  24. Install the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  25. Press and hold the park button to release the EPB service mode.

    Remove wheel chocks, if necessary.
  26. Remove the brake pedal depressor.
