Hose - Inverter to Heat Exchanger - Front Drive Unit (Non-Heat Pump) (Remove and Replace)
Correction code 18300132 0.90 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so.NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. To provide feedback on FRT values, email LaborTimeFeedback@tesla.com. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure.
Remove
- Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Open all doors and lower all windows.
- Move both front seats forward.
- Remove the hood latch cover. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
- Remove the 12V/LV battery from the vehicle. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height, and then set the lift onto locks.
- Put a coolant drain underneath the front drive unit.
-
Put a foldable funnel under
the front drive unit inverter-heat exchanger hose at the heat exchanger
coolant coupling side.
NotePrevent the spill of coolant on the 12V connection to the front drive unit oil pump, the RH half shaft and the steering rack.
-
Release the clip that
attaches the front drive unit inverter-heat exchanger hose to the heat
exchanger coolant coupling, and then disconnect the hose.
NoteAllow the coolant to drain.
-
Install plugs to the open
front drive unit inverter-heat exchanger hose and the heat exchanger coolant
coupling.
-
Put a shop towel underneath
the front drive unit upper inverter coolant coupling.
NoteMake sure the towel protects the inverter connectors.
- Release the clip that attaches the front drive unit inverter-heat exchanger hose to the inverter coolant coupling, and then disconnect the hose.
- Release the clips that attach the front drive unit inverter-heat exchanger hose to the exterior of the front drive unit, and then remove the hose from the front drive unit.
Install
- Bring the front drive unit inverter-heat exchanger hose to the exterior of the front drive unit, and then fasten the clips that attach the hose to the front drive unit.
-
Remove the plug from the
heat exchanger coolant coupling.
-
Connect the front drive unit
inverter-heat exchanger hose to the heat exchanger coolant coupling, and
then fasten the clip that attaches the hose to the coupling.
CAUTIONPerform a push-pull test to verify that the hose is fully seated.
- Remove the foldable funnel from underneath the front drive unit inverter-heat exchanger hose at the heat exchanger coolant coupling side.
-
Connect the front drive unit
inverter-heat exchanger hose to the inverter coolant coupling, and then
fasten the clip that attaches the hose to the coupling.
CAUTIONPerform a push-pull test to verify that the hose is fully seated.
- Remove the shop towel from underneath the front drive unit upper inverter coolant coupling.
- Remove the coolant drain from under the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Lower the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
-
Inspect the coolant level
and top off, if needed.
NoteMake sure that the fluid level is 5mm above the MAX line.
- Install the 12V/LV battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace)
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3.0 to the vehicle.
- Click the Actions/Autodiag tab and search for Purge.

Run. Allow the routine to complete.
CAUTIONMake sure the vehicle is not in drive state. Putting vehicle into drive state will stop this routine.NoteThe test lasts approximately 10 minutes. Routine is still running despite the stop message. The coolant pumps will be audible. Coolant pump speeds can be monitored in Garage under the PT Thermal tab. Idle speed = ~1500 RPM, Test will vary speeds from 3500-6500 RPM and actuate valve between SERIES and PARALLEL.NoteIf the coolant speeds hover at 7000 RPM, that means the coolant pumps are air locked. Therefore, perform this step again.NoteContinue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the coolant bottle.NoteSelect ‘X’ at top right of window to close once completed.
- Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
-
Inspect the coolant level
and top off, if needed.
NoteMake sure that the fluid level is 5mm above the MAX line.
- Install the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
- Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Move both front seats to their original position.
- Raise all windows and close all doors.
