Corroded Brake Pad Retention Pins - LH - Extract

Note
This procedure is applicable to Brembo brake calipers only. If this procedure is required, add correction code 33012005 as a separate correction within the same activity to the Service Visit.

Procedure

  1. Generously apply rust removing solvent to both brake pad retention pins and brake caliper contact areas.
    Note
    Allow 10 minutes for the rust removing solvent to take effect.
  2. Use a pry bar or similar to bend the upper and lower lips of the anti-rattle spring, and then remove the spring from the caliper.
    Note
    Discard the anti-rattle spring after removal.
  3. Use a wire brush to remove corrosion around the pins.
  4. Generously apply more rust removing solvent to both brake pad retention pins and brake caliper contact areas.
    Note
    Allow 5 minutes for the rust removing solvent to take effect.
  5. Install brake pin locking pliers (2202780-00-A) to the thinner part of the upper brake pad retention pin.
    Note
    Use the locking pliers to prevent the pin from bending when driving out the pin.
  6. Use a punch to remove the upper brake pad retention pin.
    Use an appropriately sized pin punch and hammer. Tap the pin from the accessible side until it becomes loose, then remove the locking pliers and fully remove the pin.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the lower brake pad retention pin.
