Beam - Cross Car (RHD) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open all doors and lower the windows.
  2. Set the steering wheel straight ahead.
  3. Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH and RH wiper arms. See Wiper Arms (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH and RH shock tower covers. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel end caps. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the LH and RH middle A-pillar trim panels. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the LH and RH lower A-pillar trim panels. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the driver and front passenger seats. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove the LH and RH floor mats.
  14. Remove the driver footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove the driver knee airbag cover. See Airbag - Knee - Driver (Remove and Install).
  16. Remove the front passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (RHD) (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the passenger knee airbag cover. See Airbag - Knee - Front Passenger (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the RH footwell vent duct.
  19. Open the glove box from the display, and then power off the vehicle.
  20. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  21. Remove the center console. Center Console (Remove and Install).
  22. Remove the main instrument panel decor trim. See Decor Trim - Instrument Panel - Main (Remove and Replace).
  23. Remove the glove box.
  24. Remove the LH footwell vent duct.
  25. Remove the LH air wave duct. See Duct - Air Wave - LH (LHD) (Non-Heat Pump) (Remove and Replace).
  26. Remove the driver air bag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  27. Remove the steering wheel. See Steering Wheel (Remove and Install).
  28. Remove the steering column control module. See Module - Steering Column Control (Remove and Replace).
  29. Remove the touchscreen. See Touchscreen (Remove and Replace).
  30. Remove the vent finisher. See Finisher - Vent (Remove and Replace).
  31. Remove the RH front vent. See Vent - Front - RH (Remove and Replace).
  32. Remove the LH front vent. See Vent - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  33. Remove the instrument panel speaker grille. See Grille - Speaker - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  34. Remove the LH and RH dash speakers. See Speaker - Dash - LH (Remove and Replace).
  35. Remove the center dash speaker. See Speaker - Dash - Center (Remove and Replace).
  36. Remove the dash tweeter. See Tweeter - Dash (Remove and Replace).
  37. Remove the IP carrier. See IP Carrier (Remove and Install).
  38. Remove the LH and RH front main carpets from the vehicle.
  39. Remove the RH air wave duct. See Duct - Air Wave - RH (LHD) (Remove and Replace).
  40. Disconnect the headliner electrical harness from the LH body controller module connector.

  41. Release the clips that attach the headliner electrical harness and move it aside.

  42. Disconnect the instrument panel harness from the LH body controller module connectors, and then remove the harness clip from the instrument panel near the LH body controller.

  43. Disconnect the instrument panel harness connector from the electronic steering column.
  44. Disconnect the electrical harness from the steering column control module connector.
  45. Release the clips (x4) that attach the electrical harness to the steering column.
  46. Disconnect the instrument panel harness from the HVAC fan assembly motor connector.
  47. Release the clips (x2) that attach the instrument panel harness to the HVAC fan assembly.
  48. Disconnect the instrument panel harness connector from the PTC heater.
  49. Release the clip that attaches the instrument panel harness to the PTC heater.

  50. Release the clips (x3) that attach the instrument panel harness to the top portion of the cross car beam, and then release the HVAC electrical harness from the instrument panel harness.
  51. Release the clips (x4) that attach the instrument panel harness to the RH side of the HVAC assembly.
  52. Remove the nut (torque 5 Nm) that attaches the instrument panel harness ground strap near the PTC heater.
  53. Remove and discard the bolt (torque 8 Nm) that attaches the instrument panel harness ground strap to the body.

  54. Disconnect the instrument panel harness connector from the restraint control module (RCM).

  55. Release the clips that attach the instrument panel harness to the body.
  56. Release the instrument panel harness clips (x3) from the LH side of the instrument panel.
  57. Disconnect the instrument panel harness connectors from the car computer.
  58. Release the center speaker harness from the HVAC case.
  59. Disconnect the instrument panel harness connectors (x2) from the RH body controller module.

  60. Disconnect the connectors (x3) from the harness clip at the RH lower A-pillar.
  61. Remove the fasteners (torque 25 Nm) that attach the RH cross car beam bracket, and then remove the bracket from the vehicle.
  62. Remove the instrument panel harness from the center console area and move it aside.
  63. Release any remaining clips that attach the instrument panel harness to the cross car beam, and then remove the harness from the cross car beam.
  64. Remove the bolts (torque 25 Nm) that attach the steering column to the body.
  65. Remove the nuts (torque 15 Nm) that attach the steering column to the cross car beam.

  66. Lower the steering column and set it aside.
  67. Remove the bolts (torque 12 Nm) that attach the touchscreen brackets, and remove the brackets from the vehicle.

  68. Release the clips that attach the bleeder duct adapter to the HVAC assembly, and remove the bleeder duct form the vehicle.

  69. Remove the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the upper side of the cowl (torque 25 Nm), and then remove the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly (torque 5.5 Nm).
  70. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly (torque 5.5 Nm).

  71. Remove the fasteners that attach the LH cross car beam bracket to the cross car beam (torque 25 Nm), and then remove the cross car beam bracket from the vehicle.

  72. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the body (torque 25 Nm).
  73. With an assistant, remove the cross car beam from the vehicle and place it on a support stand or table.

Install

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. With an assistant, position the cross car beam in the vehicle for installation.

    CAUTION
    Do not damage the interior when installing the cross car beam in the vehicle.
  2. First hand-tighten all bolts that attach the cross car beam to the body, and then torque them to the specified values.
