Procedure

Verify there is no abnormal
tire wear per Courtesy Inspection
NoteSC-14-00-001 Standard Courtesy Inspection Checklist, While performing courtesy inspection, Note any abnormal tire wear that could indicate the need for an alignment
- Raise and support vehicle

Open all four doors
NoteIf vehicle is being powered down, Latch rear doors to prevent accidental closure
- Lower all four windows

Connect to vehicle using
Toolbox 3
NoteVehicle connection is integrated into drivers footwell cover, Navigate to https://toolbox.teslamotors.com and establish connection to vehicle, Select connection status icon at top right corner then select connect locally, Icon will turn green when connected, Successful connection will automatically unlock vehicle gateway and place UI in Service Mode Plus, If RJ45 ethernet diagnostic connector present connect directly from laptop using an RJ45 Ethernet cable, For local connection issues with Toolbox 3 refer to https://toolbox.teslamotors.com/articles/43695

Run the "Start Thermal Fluid

Verify no high voltage
NoteMake sure to wear PPE (HV gloves, safety glasses) when working on high voltage component, Measure B+ to Ground, B- to Ground, B+ to B-, If voltage is greater than 10V, Pack contactors are not open or welded, Stop work and reach out to Service Engineering

- Position coolant drain container under rear of vehicle

Disconnect RDU inverter
inlet tube from LH rear of HV battery
Note1x spring clip, 2x plugs, Plug HV battery and hose, Coolant loss greater than 1 L will require vacuum fill

Disconnect RDU inverter
inlet tube from fluid coupling
Note1x spring clip, 2x plugs, Plug the hose end and the fluid coupling

Release RDU inverter inlet

- Remove coolant drain container from underneath vehicle

Disconnect RDU HV cable from

Remove RDU HV harness from
between subframe and drive unit
NoteManeuver HV harness out from in between, Rotate as needed,
- Place subframe lifting tool into position underneath rear subframe
- Connect air supply to subframe lifting tool

Raise subframe lifting tool
to support rear subframe
Note3x straps, Attach metal hooks at the end of straps to rings on subframe lifting tool and pull straps until secure, Lower the vehicle if necessary, Recommend assistance

Mark LH rear and RH rear

NoteLower the subframe partially, Use caution while lowering subframe as multiple components are still attached, Do not overstrain these components, The dampers and brake calipers are still connected, Recommend lowering about 3.25in or 8.25cm

NoteAdjust the powertrain lift and tilt it forward in order to access motor mount fasteners

Support center of the RDU

NoteUsing a rubber or wood block, support the center of the RDU while mount is disconnected, Do not damage drive unit

test plug adapter to Straight Fluid Coupling

Install coolant pressure

- Attach coolant pressure tester to pressure fitting adapter

Attach coolant pressure
tester to compressed air line
NoteMake sure valves are closed on pressure regulator

Set pressure regulator to
specified pressure value
NoteSet pressure to 50 psi
- Slowly open valve on pressure regulator and allow pressure to reach specification
-
Close the valve and let the
pressure test settle
NoteWait 16 seconds for pressure to settle, Record the reading
-
Perform the coolant pressure
leak test
NoteWait for another 12 seconds and record the reading, Max delta 0.10 psi, Check coolant hose to see if it is fully seated or not if pressure test fails
- Disconnect compressed air from coolant pressure tester
- Remove pressure fitting adapter from coolant pressure tester

Remove coolant pressure
tester from 55deg Fluid Coupling

Note1x connector, Make sure the connector lock is 90 degrees from the connector before beginning to secure the connector, Use one hand to support the connector while other latching locking tab. Once installed, verify that the latch is not damaged and fully secured in the latched position

Connect RDU HV cable to

Note1x connector, Install HV connector lever lock to RDU HV cable connector, Align connector to RDU then remove HV connector lever lock before fully latch connector, Use one hand to support the connector while other latching locking tab, Once installed, verify that the latch is not damaged and fully secured in the latched position

Lower vehicle partially and
set onto locks
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered, Set vehicle to comfortable working height
- Remove superbottle cap
- Install vacuum refill cap onto coolant bottle assembly
- Place empty coolant container into front storage area
- Fill container with at least 15L of coolant
- Place filled coolant container into front storage area

Setup vacuum refill

NoteVerify all valves on refill tool are in the closed position, See image for clarity

Install vacuum refill hose
into refill cap on coolant bottle
NotePerform push-pull-push test to verify hose is fully installed

Place refill hose inside
filled coolant container
NoteMake sure hose end is fully submerged into coolant
- Position overflow hose into empty container
-
Connect shop air supply to
coolant refill tool
NoteIf not already done, Verify refill valve is set to off
-
Open air inlet valve to draw
a vacuum, Once gauge stabilizes, Fully close valve
NoteGauge stabilizes roughly (60-70 cmHg), Vacuum should not drop after the valves are closed
-
Slowly open refill valve to
allow coolant to be drawn into system
NoteMake sure hose end of refill hose is fully submerged during entire process
- Once gauge reads zero, close coolant refill valve
- Remove vacuum refill hose from refill cap on coolant bottle
- Remove refill tool cap from coolant bottle assembly
- Remove coolant refill hose from coolant container
- Remove coolant overflow hose from coolant container
- Remove coolant refill tool from vehicle
- Remove both coolant containers from inside underhood area

Remove logic cap and connect
HVC logic connector
Note1x connector, 1x cap, Align connector then pull the handle to locking position get connector fully seated

Install 12V cap to ancillary

Connect 12V negative

Connect 2nd row seat cushion
harness and install 2nd row seat cushion
Note2x connectors, 2x clips, Insert the seat belt buckles through the holes, Slide rear cushion inward then align front guide tabs to locking tabs, Make sure cushion is fully seated with push & pull test near clips
- Move LH front seat to original position
- Move RH front seat to original position
- Re-establish vehicle connection to Toolbox 3.0

NoteMake sure vehicle is not in drive state, Plan is still running despite the stop message, Coolant pumps will be audible, Test lasts approximately 10 mins, Speeds can be monitored in garage under PT Thermal tab, Idle speed = ~1500 RPM, Test will vary speeds from 3500-6500 RPM and actuate valve between SERIES and PARALLEL, Putting vehicle into drive state will stop this routine, If speeds hover at 7000 RPM, that means the pumps are air locked, perform vacuum fill again, Continue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle, Select ‘X’ at top right of window to close once complete -
Disconnect Toolbox 3 from
vehicle and remove laptop and Diagnostics Adapter Ethernet Harness
NoteIf RJ45 ethernet diagnostic connector present media converter box not required disconnect directly from laptop using an RJ45 Ethernet cable or from OBDII connection

Inspect coolant level and
top off as necessary
NoteEnsure that the fluid level is 5mm above the Max line
- Install coolant reservoir cap

Raise vehicle partially and
lower lift onto locks
NoteSet vehicle to comfortable working height, Make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side

Install LH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm, Start lug nuts by hand before using power tool

Install RH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm, Start lug nuts by hand before using power tool

Lower vehicle until tires
are touching ground
NoteRaise lift off locks, Then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered

Torque RH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm

Install RH rear wheel center
cap
Note1x cap, Verify emblem is aligned with valve stem

Torque LH rear wheel
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm

Install LH rear wheel center
cap
Note1x cap, Verify emblem is aligned with valve stem

Install cabin intake upper
duct assembly
Note3x clips, Some configurations may come with 4x clips

Install rear apron
Note12x clips
- Close hood
- Raise all windows

Close all four doors
NoteUnlatch rear doors before closing

Remove vehicle from
lift
NoteLower rack arms fully and remove from under vehicle

Refer to the Alignment
Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four
wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment
check/adjust correction code as a separate activity to the SV.
