Hose - Chiller to HV Battery (Heat Pump) (Dual Motor) (Remove and Replace)

Correction code 18302412 FRT 2.16 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the correction code and FRT listed above reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. Remove

  1. Put the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open all doors and lower the windows.

    Latch the rear doors to prevent accidental closure after the vehicle is powered off.
  3. Remove the 2nd row seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  6. Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  7. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Thermal > Coolant System > Coolant Fill/Drain, touch Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  8. Disconnect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  9. Lock steering wheel into position.
  10. Perform the vehicle HV disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  11. Remove the clips (x3 or 4) that attach the cabin intake upper duct assembly.
  12. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the steering gear assembly to intermediate shaft assembly.
  14. Slide the electric steering column upward to remove it from the steering gear assembly.

    You may need to wiggle or use a dead blow hammer to help separate.
  15. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the fresh air intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the 12V/LV battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the coolant bottle cap.
  19. Place a fluid extractor in front of the vehicle.

    Note
    Set Mityvac to evacuate.
  20. Evacuate coolant from the coolant bottle.

    Place evacuation hose in bottle at left front corner to remove as much fluid as possible, pump fluid into Mityvac evacuator.
  21. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  22. Position a coolant drain container below the HV battery front manifold hose.
  23. Disconnect the FDU inverter inlet hose from the fluid coupling.

    Plug the hose end and fluid coupling.
  24. Release the FDU inverter inlet hose from the FDU.
  25. Release the HV battery front manifold hose from the body.
  26. Disconnect the HV battery front manifold hose and plug both hose ends.
  27. Remove the bolt that attaches the FDU HV harness to the FDU.
  28. Disconnect the FDU HV harness connector.

    Note
    Release the locking tab and rotate the release lever up to disengage the connector. Do not force the release lever up. Make sure that the alignment tabs on the FDU header are not damaged.
  29. Remove the bolt that attaches the FDU ground strap to the FDU.
  30. Release the FDU ground strap harness clip from the FDU.
  31. Slide the intermediate shaft towards the rear of the vehicle.
  32. Position a stand to support the LH side of the FDU.

    Note
    This will allow the LH side mount bolt to be backed out with ease.
  33. Back out the bolt until the backside is flush with the subframe.

    Note
    By backing this bolt out, it allows for clearance between the subframe and the bulkhead when removing and installing the hose from/to the vehicle. DO NOT fully remove the bolt. This way, the FDU can continue to be supported.
  34. Remove the stand from below the FDU.
  35. Position a coolant catcher underneath the front of the vehicle.
  36. Remove the coolant bottle from the supermanifold. See Coolant Bottle (Heat Pump) (Remove and Replace).
  37. Remove the bolts that attach the shock tower brace to the LH and RH shock tower.
  38. Move the shock tower brace assembly forward to gain clearance.
  39. Remove the retaining clip that attaches the A/C compressor HV harness to the front harness guide cover.
  40. Release the hose clip from below the RH side of the 12V beam.
  41. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the 12V beam to the body.
  42. Disconnect the thermal sub-harness from the front controller.

    Note
    Depress locking tab and rotate to release.
  43. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the front controller to the body.
  44. Tilt the front controller forward for access.
  45. Remove the bolt and clip that attach the ground cable to the rear side of the front controller.
  46. Put absorbent material below the car computer coolant hose connection points to collect any spilled coolant.
  47. Disconnect and plug the outer coolant hose to the car computer mount.
  48. Disconnect the inner coolant hose to car computer mount.
  49. Install the car computer coolant plug.
  50. Release the hose clips from the RH side of the bulkhead.
  51. Release the hose clip from the LH side of the bulkhead.
  52. Remove the chiller to battery hose from the vehicle.

    Note
    Remove hose from the RH side of the vehicle. Gently maneuver the hose as needed to clear any surrounding objects.

Install

  1. Position the chiller to battery hose to the vehicle for installation.

    Feed hose into position from the RH side of the vehicle along the bulkhead. Gently maneuver the hose as needed to clear any surrounding objects.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Position a coolant drain container below the HV battery front manifold hose.
  4. Remove the plugs, and then connect the HV battery front manifold hose.

    Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully engaged.
  5. Install the clip that attaches the HV battery front manifold hose to the body.
  6. Install the clip that attaches the FDU inverter inlet hose.
  7. Remove the plug from the fluid coupling and connect the FDU inverter inlet hose.

    Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully engaged.
  8. Remove the coolant drain container from underneath the vehicle.
  9. Position a stand to support the LH side of the FDU.

    This will allow LH side mount bolt to be backed in with ease.
  10. Install the LH FDU mounting bolt.
    105 Nm (77.4 lbs-ft)

    Using a 3/8 Dr. ratchet with adapter will ease torquing as space is limited.
  11. Remove the stand from below the FDU.
  12. Slide the intermediate shaft towards the front of the vehicle.
  13. Attach the FDU ground strap harness clip to the FDU.
  14. Install the bolt that attaches the FDU ground strap to the FDU.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
  15. Connect the FDU HV harness connector to the FDU.

    Note
    Make sure that the lever is in the upright and open position. Carefully seat the connector and allow the lever to engage. Fully install the lever and engage the red locking tab. Do not damage the connector or header.
  16. Install the bolt that attaches the FDU HV harness to the FDU.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
  17. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  18. Install the hose clip onto the LH side of the bulkhead.
  19. Install the hose clips onto the RH side of the bulkhead.
  20. Install the hose clip onto the bottom RH side of the 12V beam.
  21. Install the retaining clip that attaches the A/C compressor HV harness to the front harness guide cover.

    Note
    Feed the harness down against the firewall of the vehicle to continue installation.
  22. Remove the coolant plug from the car computer.
  23. Connect the outer coolant hose to the car computer mount.

    Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the hose is fully seated.
  24. Connect the inner coolant hose to the car computer mount.

  25. Remove the absorbent material from below the car computer coolant hose connection points.
  26. Install the bolt and clip that attach the ground cable to the rear side of the front controller.
    8.5 Nm (6.3 lbs-ft)

  27. Install the harness guide and tilt the front controller backwards for installation.

  28. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the front controller to the body.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
  29. Connect the thermal sub-harness to the front controller.

    Rotate fully to enable attaching the locking tab.
  30. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the 12V beam to the body.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
  31. Install the coolant bottle. See Coolant Bottle (Heat Pump) (Remove and Replace).
  32. Position the shock tower brace assembly back for installation.
  33. Install the bolts that attach the shock tower brace to LH and RH shock tower.

  34. Install the 12V/LV battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  35. Slide the intermediate shaft assembly downward to install it to the steering gear assembly.

    Make sure that the intermediate shaft is aligned and fully seated.
  36. Install a new bolt that attaches the intermediate shaft to the steering gear assembly.
    18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)
  37. Install the fresh air intake assembly. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
  38. Install the cowl screen assembly and all parts removed to remove the cowl screen assembly. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  39. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  40. Connect 12V/LV power. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  41. Remove the steering wheel holder.
  42. Perform a vacuum refill. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
  43. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Make sure that the fluid level is at the MAX line.
  44. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  45. Access thermal system routines via UI

    • Drive Inverter ➜ Front Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Stop Fluid Fill/Drain
